I BOOKED A WEEK IN ADVANCE FOR PEOPLE THAT RELOCATED FROM PRETORIA TO CAPE TOWN, CONFIRMED THE BOOKINGS CONSTANTLY, BUT WHEN THEY ARRIVED THERE BEFORE 9:30 THEY GAVE THEIR ROOM TO SOMEONE ELSE! HOW PROFESSIONAL IS THAT??? THOSE PEOPLE HAD TO LOOK FOR OVER NIGHT STAY AT THAT TIME OF NIGHT. THEIR EXCUSE WAS THAT THEY TRIED TO PHONE BUT NO ANSWER. NOW MY QUESTION TO THEM IS, DO THEY KNOW FIRST OF ALL RECEPTION IS BAD, SECOND I TOLD THEM I WOULD LET THEM KNOW IF THEY WILL BE LATE, THIRDLY HOW CAN YOU JUST GIVE A ROOM TO SOMEONE ELSE THAT WALKS IN AND LEAVE THE PEOPLE THAT BOOKED A WEEK IN ADVANCE IN THE DARK??!! SOOO UNPROFESSIONAL AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM AGAIN TO NO BODY. ALTHOUGH THEIR PLACE WAS SO WELCOMING ALL OF THAT WENT OUT THE DOOR WHEN THEY DECIDE TO GIVE A ROOM AWAY FOR A WALK IN WITHOUT A BOOKING...

Best pet friendly stop over ever. Wonderful warm atmosphere. Great big room with separate bathroom and kitchen. Everything one needs to kick back and relax after a long drive. Rooms are clean and nicely decorated. And price is very reasonable.

The gardens are beautiful and secure for your pets to roam around an sniff without worrying.

The staff are the best, as well as the owner - Salt of the earth people. Nothing is too much for them. I would go up there just for a weekend if it wasn't so far. An oasis.

I highly recommend Herb Garden Guest House, Colesberg as a stop over on route to or from Durban/Johannesburg...

We made a booking for a group of co-workers on our way back from Cape Town. Upon our arrival the gentleman that received us was confused as to what our arrangements were. While my boss and the lady that made our arrangements were trying to sort the mess out, I entered the office just to listen to the conversation. The next moment the gentleman said: "This has nothing to do with you, find yourself a bed!". As I did nothing to spark this outburst I, left the premises and found other accommodation at the Colesberg Lodge where I was treated with respect.

I strongly recommend that you DO...

I think the target market is the truck drivers for sleep-over. No bad experience though, the apartment was fairly clean. It serves it's purpose of sleepover to and from between Cape Town and Pretoria. Very oldish and not appealing. Accomodation and breakfast costs equates what I would pay at Protea hotel, therefor not good value for money. Options for dinner in the evening are limited. The small town drive doesn't feel safe at all. Very dusty area. Hygeine of the town... extremely poor.

Located perfectly half way between CT and Johannesburg. The rooms are clean, neat and well-equipped. We have stayed here a few times and we are always welcomed by very friendly staff who ensure that your stay is comfortable. The rooms have a tv with DSTV and a lovely aircon, as well as extra blankets. They also have safe parking for guests' vehicles. The rooms walk out onto a lovely patio next to a very pretty garden. Always our first choice to stay here when traveling to Cape Town.

The Herb Garden Guesthouse in Colesberg was our stopover on our second night, roadtripping to Cape Town. The rooms are spacious, clean and neat. They are however a bit out dated and as such I found the price a bit on the high side. Otherwise the grounds are neat and tidy and the gardens well maintained. The pool next to the reception area is a welcome sight in the high summer temperatures.
