To be part of the celebration club with Tulbagh Boutique Heritage Hotel does have its bright side. We were randomly chosen to come and stay over for one night with breakfast for our 8th anniversary. That in itself was a huge bonus.
Arriving there, we were greeted with the most friendly people in Tulbagh (I am convinced all the people at the Tulbagh Boutique Heritage Hotel are friendly)
We were shown our room, and it was indescribable. I will try, though. One of the Fynbos rooms was upstairs part of the main hotel.
The bed is the room's main feature as you come into the room—enormous king size extra length! with three pillows on each side—a proper working air conditioner. The Bathroom and toilet with a shower are unique and spacious. If the bed, toilet, and shower were perfect, I was home in our room. I did not want to leave. :-)
In the dining room that evening is where the restaurant came to life, and as we were seated, our waitress, Suzanna Booyens, I am sure this girl can read minds. She asked me what I would like to drink, and as I was in the mood for a cocktail but did not want to pick or choose what I would like, I asked her to select. Man, that was the best. She arranged the Pear and Ginger Cocktail for me. That should have given me a hint of what was to come.
With our main meal, we did not take starters, I chose the 300g sirloin steak and gave instructions about how I would like it to be done, rare to raw, outside seared and inside hot but still red and bloody, this is not the easiest to be done and 2 seconds longer or less will spoil the meat.
I was blown away by the chef, Siphiwe Bovungana's rendition of the steak, you could cut it with the fork, and it was nice and hot but bloody inside. 1000% perfect! This proves that from the General Manager down to the guys cleaning up, everyone works together to make sure that the Tulbagh Boutique Heritage Hotel runs like a Rolex watch.
Our sleep was uneventful as I do not remember much. Of course, when you are on that bed, you do not want to get out of it, and if it was not that I wanted to eat breakfast, we might still have been sleeping. Ha Ha Ha.
Breakfast was just another explosion of taste, texture and fantastic fragrances from the espressos and the Cappuccinos. It seemed like they wanted to...

Read moreAfter a fabulous birthday lunch at Montpellier decided to treat ourselves to one of the variety of cocktails at the Tulbagh boutique hotel, they all sounded perfect on a hot day. After asking the waiter what alcohol they are made with we got a "yes" (whatever that means, asked again and told vodka, 3 fabulous looking cocktails arrived, I ordered the strawberry lime smash. Not a flavour in sight, zero alcohol, chopped strawberries and an abundance of mint leaves floating in soda water. The grapefruit pom pom also just watered down grapefruit and the pomegranate kardashian, the tastiest of the lot but also missing the alcohol. I complained and my glass was taken away and returned exactly the same, levels the same and the same soda water nothingness so I went to the bar myself to discover the alcohol was bacardi, not vodka and the bottle was full and unopened. I insisted on waiting and watching while they made me a new one. One tot of bacardi, unwashed strawberries straight from the supermarket punnet, too many mint leaves and a splash of roses lime, all in a blender, unlike the first one, much better, not great but much better. I don't understand why establishments don't train staff on what is on the menu and how to create those said items. The most expensive soft drinks ever and overall...
