The Grand hotel is located a bit out of the center. For westerners very difficult to find restaurants. Most around the hotel are small and Korean style, no real western food, no English menu and not even pictures to can choose from. I ended up having to use McDonald's food delivery via Korean McDo app. Almost every dinner McDo is not an option, bad taste, arrives cold and only after long waiting times and sometimes arrives never...There is clearly no western infrastucture around the hotel.||||The hotel itsellf is a 12floor building with many rooms. It also has a restaurant on 3F but it was closed! On the ground floor is a Starbucks with Korean tasting western food, means everything is sugar coated even the Mexican chicken burrito...||||The front desk personnel is kind and helpful, their English is good, no communication issues at all.||||There is no executive lounge.||||The executive room was not too small. There was a desk and n old style chair too. The bed large and comfortable, bed linen clean and not cleaned with aggressive chemicals, my skin wasn't itchy like in some other places. ||||The room 1288 was not in a bad over all condition but looked outdated, old hotel, old rooms. In need of some upgrade and facelift maybe also including a new carpet.||||What I didn't like is the poor cleaning: I left some small packaging garbage on the floor of the bathroom, where it did not get picked up. The carpet is old and in need of a deep cleaning. If you walk out from the bathroom with slightly wet feet, you will have many long black hairs on yout feet, disgusting. Also corners and other not so exposed areas don't see much cleaning.||||Especially at corona times, I would very much wish to have more serious cleaning.||||Next to the bed was no any power outlet, really bad if you want to have your phone near to you while charging it over night. I don't understand this, it is a total "no go" for me not to be able to find any sockets at the bed !!!||||Huge flat tv with very very few foreign channels, CNN and BBC and Bloomberg are available, otherwise some Chinese and Japenese. Not a lot of choices for Non-Koreans.||||The laundry charges are far to high.||||The breakfast mostly Korean style or what Koreans believe to be western. Disappointing to have not enough choices, every day the same food. Long stayer, be warned, after a few days you will wish to have some changes...||||So all in all, this hotel is somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. The hotel was not a bad place for a short stay with kind staff, but nobody "strives or goes out if his way to deliver a remarkable experience". A good hotel clearly needs to do better than that.||||I might come back, also due to the fact, that at this moment, when Novotel is closed, there are not many good hotels in Daegu. What they need is some upscale international hotels to have more competition! I heard, Marriott is almost finished and will...
Read moreI stayed at this supposed 4 star property for 12 nights. At best it is a 2.5 star hotel and lacking in many areas. Let me preface my remarks by saying that I am 40 year veteran of commercial property management and had the opportunity to train other property managers on 4 continents towards an internationally recognized credential. To begin with, this is the first 4* property in a major international city where the reception desk people did not speak decent English. Did not ever have this issue in the PRC or 10 other countries countries in which I have worked. Personally, I am a U.S. national and speak 5 languages. The room itself (710) was long overdue for a hard turnover as its furniture was badly worn and upholstery in one chair was badly soiled. The desk chair had a noticeable tear in the seat pan. The bed was comfortable and the bottom sheet replaced each day. The top was a duvet which was not. The bathroom was also dated and the tub was several centimeters higher than the finished floor making it awkward (and potentially dangerous) in getting into and out of the tub/shower. There was a drain water backup for several days until, I assume, housekeeping and engineering resolved the issue. Towels were sufficient, soft, and changed daily. There was a broken garment hook on the back of the bathroom door which was never replaced. Coat hangers were in short supply but were resolved promptly The hotel offers a buffet breakfast for 30 USD. You have to first go to the lobby to pay for it and staff provides a chit. All of the food was cold...very cold which in some countries because of health reasons, would have been removed from the serving line. The Chef was kind enough to prepare steamed milk for my latte as the coffee machine did not. I asked the attendant who said there was no milk to be had. I asked that person to ask the chef and the matter was resolved. Given this experience, I ate off-property thereafter with the exception of Starbucks for breakfast each morning running between 15 and 20 USD each day. Everyone at this massive Starbucks were delightful except one associate whose name badge identified themselves as "Snoopy". I would remand this person to more training especially since all associates are customer facing. So all in all, an A- for Location, a C for Service, and a D for Accommodations and Comfort. Safe...
Read moreStayed her for 2 nights. Hotel has a pretty good location, right off the main road about 12 minute drive from the KTX train station.
The rooms (we had 2) are pretty dated. Felt like we were back in the 1980s as the lights are controlled by this phone like device. Carpet and bathroom tile are showing their age, and there was a lack of counter space in the bathroom. The overall size of the room was decent and had plenty of room for luggage.
Bed was OK, a little firm but I slept OK on it. The air con in one room worked much better than in the other.
We had breakfast booked with the room rate and it was pretty good. They had both western and Korean dishes. I'd recommend it if the cost isn't too expensive.
Hotel also has a nice gym and both men's and women's saunas. It really seems like it's just the rooms that are lacking and in need of refurbishment. Staff were also very nice but spoke...
