The resort is located in a scenic area with picturesque views, perfect for Instagram. However, the experience behind the facade was distressing.
During my stay, I encountered several issues. The rooms are not easily accessible. Hauling my luggage up the stairs was a struggle. During my stay, I noticed a significant insect problem. I saw cockroaches and several fast-moving centipede-like bugs that I had to deal with myself. Insect sprays provided in the room suggest this is a known issue. Sleeping was difficult knowing these pests were around, especially with the bed being so low to the ground. I noticed some power device coming off the wall as well. The room was also extremely hot when we entered and it took a while to get cool.
More troubling was the condition of the animals on the property. In the car park area, I found a cage with three dogs locked inside, right next to the garbage bins. They were exposed to the harsh sun with little to no shade, surrounded by their own waste. It was heartbreaking to see them suffer in such harsh conditions. The dogs appeared sad, especially the Labrador, and the French Bulldog visibly struggled to breathe in the heat. It seemed they were confined in these cages around the clock without any love or attention. :(
Reading other reviews, I saw that similar concerns have been raised in the past with little to no improvement. This makes it even more disappointing. These animals deserve compassion and better treatment.
Please be aware of these issues before booking your stay. While the views are beautiful, the resort's treatment of animals and lack of cleanliness reflect poorly on their responsibilities. Every living creature deserves love and attention, and unfortunately, that was not what I witnessed here. This is based on my experience...
Read moreThe Haeilri was a great long weekend get-away and solid base for exploring the eastern half of Jeju Island. ||Pros: Great location. Sunset views. Ground floor rooms have private plunge pool, mini lawn and outdoor hot tub. Walk to Seongsan Ilchulbong or downtown. Free parking. I would definitely go again if I were seeking lodging on Jeju.||Decor a little dated but our family room (queen + twin) was spacious and comfortable.||Limitations: Some inconveniences which can be worked around... Check-in by 7PM (if you are going to be later, you can get the code to get into your room but we needed the Korean-speaking concierge to arrange by phone for us). Only one laundry machine and only available during lobby hours. No coffee maker (just a water kettle) or supplies in kitchenette so buy your instant coffee and paper cups at a nearby convenience store. This most be a known problem because cups are sold...
