Having carefully chosen my summer destination holiday hotel, i really thought I had done it again when I found Hostal Aigua Clara. The website does a very good job of alluring you into their realm. So, my first my reaction when arriving at the Hostal was 'underwhelming'...||||It didn't help that we got lost driving there as the instructions on the website weren't clear (or at least when I tried to down load them) and the staff who were on duty when we arrived took us to our choice of two hotel rooms, and then promptly left us, after recommending a particular average local restaurant... It also located next to an 'ocean liner' monstrosity of a beach club, how this got approved to be built in beautiful Fomentera, I'm not so sure. ||||We initially stayed in a Cap de Barbaria room. These rooms are compact and the balconies are small. The view of the beach is also at an angle with a view over the bay. Personally, I would not want to hang out there when the terrace and sea is much closer by. Bed is comfortable but I must admit I was disappointed to find the bathroom with a half used toilet roll there. Some may say that this is a small issue, but to me its a little something, esp for new guests arriving. Perhaps I've been too accustomed to travelling in Asia and other places where this is customary..The rooms also back on to the street to the next door beach club where there is delivery driver in the morning, followed by the rubbish truck. I have to admit, it was noisy and not particularly pleasant, especially on vacation...||||Following this disappointment, we then we asked if we could move rooms and our say at the hotel was transformed. We had a Migjorn room, right by the beach! It was heaven. So quiet, and spacious. We really felt the difference and the expansiveness and ocean feel to the room. ||||Breakfasts were nice and simple, including pan con tomate with lovely bread. Pastries, including ensaimadas were good. I also enjoyed the fact that they offered soy milk as well as oat milk as dairy alternatives. There are some nice restaurants close by, including the rather average appearing Restaurant Carabela, but lovely, home cooked food and also serving local Formentera wine. Yum!||||There is a nice yoga deck overlooking the sea, but we must have missed it because they weren't offering classes the next day after we arrived. A couple of hammocks are around the place giving a really relaxed feel. The beach is right opposite, which by Formentera standards, isn't mind blowing, but its still pretty amazing and has some nice beach side restaurants too. Oh, its not crowded at all :)||||Maria and her staff were very pleasant and nice. ||||Overall, we loved our time at the Hostal Aigua Clara, however I could not help but feel that this place could be turned into something much more, a destination in its own right. A cooked breakfast, or even served on the wonderful terrace, some nice bathroom amenities in the rooms, the bar area being jazzed up a bit as well information about their dining options, which was not very transparent. Perhaps Maria wants to keep it that relaxed way, which is fine, but I could see so much potential in the place.||||As mentioned, the Migjorn or Ses Savines rooms seem to represent the true essence of the place - being on the ground, and really encapsulating the seaside vibe. Highly recommended and look forward to returning one day, perhaps to a newly decked...
Read moreMy family and I arrived in Formentera on a Monday evening, full of excitement for our stay at Aigua clara. Unfortunately, our experience did not live up to expectations.
Upon arrival, the receptionist (young man) seemed disinterested and failed to provide us with any essential information about the hostel. We had to ask about everything ourselves, which set a disappointing tone from the beginning.
Despite being heavily advertised on their website and Instagram, there were no yoga classes available during our stay. This was a significant letdown as it was one of the main reasons we chose this hostel.
The fan in our room was loud, making it impossible to use during the night. Although there was air conditioning, it wasn't practical for us to use because it directed cold air straight onto me, which was uncomfortable since there were three of us in the room (we booked this room and were aware of its size). Also, we could not leave the windows open because of mosquitos.
Additionally, our room was located in an odd area at the back of the hostal, which was not depicted in any of the pictures online. This added to our feeling of being misled about what to expect.
We had planned to stay for five days but ended up leaving after the first night due to these issues. The nearby beach was also underwhelming and did not match the picturesque images we had seen.
On a positive note, the breakfast selection was decent, and the common areas, including the breakfast space and terrace, were quite pleasant. Moreover, the owner (Maria, I believe) was very understanding and agreed to refund us for the remaining nights. She also agreed to store our baggage while we visited a beach before our departure, which we appreciated but at the end did not use.
In conclusion, we were really looking forward to our stay at this hostal, but the lack of hospitality and the unwillingness to address the issues we raised led us to cut our visit short. Also, for the price we paid we expected something more. I hope the management takes these points into consideration to improve the experience for...
Read moreRecently there for three nights and found the HAC to be a very well maintained property, tucked away on a quiet beach in Formentera, with an excellent owner and staff. Room was right on the water, breakfast was great, and everything we could've asked for was taken care of in a timely fashion. Rented a scooter (1 minute walk away) for getting around during the day and we were able to take a taxi (called by HAC) for getting to dinner and what not at night. Can't speak to the dinner because we were there for only a short time and we chose to go to other places in order to see more of the island. Lucky Bar, Blue Bar, Kiosko 62, several other bars/restaurants are a short walk away down the beachfront boardwalk. The Insotel hotel is a rather large hotel immediately beside HAC but we weren't able to hear any noise or really even notice it was there. Hopefully will be returning to...
