We did not have a good experience this time at Casa Grande.
To be clear, we were not staying at this Albergue on this occasion but we had stayed here previously on our last Camino so were return customers. On this Camino it was necessary to make a phone call to our doctors back in the UK and asked if they had somewhere quiet we could sit and make the call (using our own phones). The cleaner was incredibly helpful and made a call to who we assume was the manager - We were then turned away. Pilgrims in need, turned away 👎
I have no doubt this is a very nice hotel. It is clean and modern. It is so modern they seem to have turned their backs what the Camino means and on the community that sustains them. It is behaviour of a hotel disinterested in the welfare of its pilgrims. It is a shame.
This may have been an isolated incident that I hope will be a learning opportunity.. but for now I would think carefully before giving my money to an organisation that would not assist a fellow...
Read morePOSSIBLY ONE OF THE WORST EXPERIENCES I HAVE EVER HAD||We arrived after a long drive from Segovia to be met by the owner and berated as the booking - done via Mr and Mrs Smith had not been paid.||The lady could speak less English than I could Spanish and implored ME to contact Mr and Mrs Smith to get paid. Seems as though they had recently bought the hotel and previous reservation payments perhaps had been pocketed by the previous owner. Not my fault. Eventually she allowed us int the room. She could only put together sliced tomato, cheeses and air dried meets. Whilst nice was a bit strange. We were then informed that she was off to Logroño for the evening, that there would be no breakfast and we should let ourselves out in the morning. All quite stressful and really weird.
