The food was solid—honest plates that fill the belly and calm the road. Locals were in good spirits, easy to talk to, the kind of place where you can share stories over a beer and feel the town breathe around you.
But peel back the layers and you catch the scent of something else: a place more interested in profiting from pilgrims than walking beside them. The soul felt transactional, like the Camino was just a parade of wallets passing through.
A sharp contrast to Barbackana in Grañón, where the owner greets you with eyes that say, “I’ve been where you are.” There, you feel welcomed—supported on your journey, not just processed.
There’s a difference between serving a pilgrim and feeding a customer. One walks with you. The other...
Read moreA guy from our pilgrimage group asked for a fresh lemonade, they didn't have it on the menu, but used lemon slices as decoration for canned lemonade juice they were selling. He said he will pay for the juice, but he just wants a glass of tap water and lemon slices that go with that juice. The woman started yelling no puedo, no puedo (I can't) like he asked her for a kidney.
