Spent a wonderfully relaxing and active pair of days over the long Easter weekend at Can Massa. We were very impressed with how restful and quiet the home was, and the diversity of the groups staying there: a couple with twin young girls, a couple with one little boy, and a retired couple. Each morning, at least one of the hosts stopped by the big, rustic breakfast room to answer questions and give recommendations for activities suitable for every interest and activity level: Bicycling and walking in the region of Baix Emporda, hiking in the nearby Alta Garrotxa, swimming at Banyoles or the sea, visiting the many medieval villages in the region, getting to the sea by bike... great places to eat... etc. We borrowed bikes (including an exciting outing on a tandem!) and rode around on gently rolling hills and ate extremely well! The old farmhouse itself is a wonder: Three or four generations of family history still present in the form of furniture, photographs, and places where the farmhouse has been "built out" to accommodate a growing family and business. The house has a giant enclosed courtyard where guests can play ping-pong, badminton, try a unicycle, or just read in the quiet hammock hanging from the olive tree. Three minutes walking to Bar L'Escola for locally brewed beer and delicious Catalunyan food (in a converted schoolhouse, as its name suggests). Salvador Dali's castle is a ten minute stroll up the road in Pubol. The breakfasts at Can Massa were outstanding: A wide variety of cereals, yogurts and flans, toast and tomato and jams, and always some new sweet treat baked by our hostess. Incredible sunrises seen from our room's loggia/galleria made getting out of bed a delight. This was one of the most relaxingly active weekends we've experienced with AirBnb. We definitely recommend Can Massa for singles, couples, and families up to four, or even larger groups looking to get away for an active holiday in the...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at Can Massa over the long Easter weekend and we would HIGHLY recommend it! The hosts and owners Carme and Josep are extremely friendly and welcoming, bending over backwards to make sure that our stay was comfortable, fun, and active (which we wanted!). Even though the B&B was full for the weekend, both Josep and Carme greeted every guest warmly and chatted with everyone over breakfast. And boy was the breakfast spread delicious! Every day there was a good spread of Catalunyan staples - bread, tomato, jamons, etc - and also fruit, yogurt, and a rotation of homemade treats!||||The villa itself is gorgeous. Many generations of Massa's have lived there and Josep showed us where the villa had been expanded over the generations as the family grew. The courtyard is a great place to enjoy a picnic or play badminton, ping pong, or just relax in a hammock under an olive tree. We also borrowed bikes and toured around the countryside. There are hundreds of kilometers of marked cycle paths! Even with the B&B being full, the villa was quiet and restful.||||Just down the street is the Bar Escola, a great spot for a meal and some locally brewed beers. Josep even went to school there as a kid before it was converted to a cafe!||||In short, I'd highly recommend Can Massa for a lovely stay in the Catalunyan...
