Overall, I would rate this hotel more of a 3-star property. Relatively speaking, it is nice than other 2-stars, especially because of the large swimming pool, the restaurant/bar, and nice balconies. It is also in a nice location, only a few minutes walk to the Port and the spactacular natural harbor.
Negatives: My biggest complaint is that the manager, who generally comes in the afternoons, has absolutely no concern for the guests. Her customer service acumen is below zero!
Next, No AC-- If you enjoy coming back to relax in your cool room after spending the day in the Mallorcan sun, forget it. There is no AC and this is supposedly right there on the website. There are fans available if you ask the right person! And, if you're lucky, you might have an evening breeze.
Very "rustic" weathered furnishings, but tile floors are a plus. Granted, this property is slated for renovation, which would easily put it in the solid 3 category.
There was a major storm that just hit the island and the owner came by to oversee repairs. The manager could have done something during this time to make the guests feel comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised that the pool area was cleaned up by the following evening.
While the manager has her job cut out for her w major multitasking, that's no excuse for being rude to everyone who tries to ask her a question. She is not accomodating in the least. She also is not able to understand anything in English, German, French, or even guests who try speaking Spanish. This strangely is in stark contrast to all of the other staff who are extraordinarily pleasant and helpful.
Back to the pool again, because I like to swim. It is large enough for swimming short laps, or just relaxing. The pics on the Internet somewhat exaggerate the size, but seems common practice.
Tables around the pool are reserved for those dining at the restaurant, so don't even think about sitting there if the manager is on duty!
And, if you need anything at all, forget asking this person. She's obviously overworked and busy insulting the guests. She also has little interest or ability to offer guests information about the town and surrounding area.
The electrical outlet blew out in our room the first day and she didn't seem to care, not even offering to replace our charger and cable, which were destroyed.
She also reminded me that this was a basic hotel, unlike the more expensive neighboring hotels. Actually, the prices do not reflect this, especially when considering additional $18 per person per day charge for half-board. So, that puts this place in the price-point ballpark w the nicer level 3 properties.
I can't say enough about the other staff. The evening reception person who speaks at least 4 languages, makes every effort to accommodate the guests, even when she's running around like a whirling derby! Likewise, the chef, and both servers/bartenders were great.
We declined breakfast as it didn't seem so special. However, very pleased w dinner, including the exceptional service, which is why we decided to eat there on three occasions. It was also quite reasonable.
No amenities in the room, except bathroom. Outlets blew out first time we used them, destroying our charger. Bathroom ok, but shower is old w only a curtain, which is ineffective at keeping water from leaking onto the floor. Nice bath towels though!
So bottom line, somewhat overpriced, but the "generally" upbeat and positive staff, nice pool, location, plus the clientele, made it a...
Read moreDon't do that - stay away of this hotel! We've spent there the worst two nights on Majorca (and we slept in 4 other hotels) as we decided to book it looking on the photoshopped photos. Maybe it is cheaper then other hotels but even when you pay less you don't expect luxury - it should be clean and the equipment should work. Our story: there was no AC - (it's ok for this money) so we opened the balcony doors and we couldn't sleep until 5am because of the noise of old doors and windows crackling on the wind, cars on the street, drunk people on the garden party on the other side of the street. after it we asked for cancelling our reservation for the next night but the hotel offered us another, 'better room'. The room was almost this same quality but less noisy (from the pool side) in both rooms the flush in the toilet was broken. So we had to flush it with the plastic bowl... Embarrassing. shower was sinking very uncomfy and loud beds (crackling when you turn around) there are no cosmetics for the guests - even a piece of soap (it's the time of pandemia!!!!) the water in the tap is awful - we needed to buy a water to rinse our teeth in the market apart from the port/bay neighborhood the town looks like abandoned - most of the buildings are in bad condition and are for sale. receptionist and the manager we speaking very poor English unclean floor under the bed...
It was the worst hotel in which we slept during for the last 5 years of many travels around the Europe. We always choose the hotel carefully but it was big mistake. Mostly because the hotel photos seems to be photoshopped to look nicer. So check my photos and videos.
But there are also some good things about this hotel: nice pool area - many sunbeds, the pools is not too small. The biggest advantage of the hotel. nice staff in the restaurant - guys we friendly and helpful there is beautiful small bay and some nice restaurants...
Read moreThis was the priciest place we booked for our trip, but hands down the worst. Imagine walking into the lobby and being greeted by the stench of a porta potty at a week-long music festival—truly foul. We could have maybe gotten past that, but then we entered the room. The AC was off, it was sweltering, and the bathroom? Even more pungent than the lobby, like the lobby was just the opening act. To top it off, we had ants in our room joining the party.
We let the staff know about the aggressively pungent smell (the worst we've encountered in a lifetime of questionable hotel choices). Their response? “Oh, that’s just the city pipes." Comforting, right? After asking for a refund—because, trust me, no human should be subjected to that odor—the staff stood their ground like they were defending the crown jewels. Mariano at the front desk wouldn’t even call his superiors until we got angry, and when our friend (a woman) expressed her frustration, he hit her with a "Please don’t look at me like that." What? Should she have been grinning through the stench?
Eventually, they grudgingly offered us half the room price. Not ideal, but better than nothing. But then, after we got off the phone with Booking.com, Mariano gleefully announced that they’d snatched that offer back. Apparently, we were on a time-sensitive contract negotiation we weren’t aware of. So we packed our bags, said goodbye to Hotel Smell-a-lot, and found a much better place in the next town for half the price.
In summary: If you enjoy the sweet scent of sewage and prefer being gaslit over a relaxing hotel stay, Hotel Santanyi Port is the place for you....
