Honestly sad to write this review. I stayed there for three night. The beginning was nice, everyone friendly. Until, I said I don’t need air conditioning in the room for the last night because I decided I rather use the fan than sleep in the freezing. Middle in the night I decided fan wasn’t doing the job so I switched on the air con - thinking I would pay in the morning the extra for it - wouldn’t cross my mind I was being a criminal. I woke up to a rude message from the owner being upset that I put the air con on. The next day his attitude totally changed and he was extremely rude and treathening me that he knows everyone around and he is going to text my friend about what I did! Crazy! Didn’t even let me explain that I wasn’t being cheeky and I wanted to pay for it (in fact I was about to give them a tip on my departure) - but he wouldn’t let me speak - being mean.
I also told him the night before I will be going for a sunrise - he didn’t even mention they lock the gate for the night so I woke up at 4am and couldn’t leave the property. When I called him after 6am to open the gate so I could finally go out - he was super upset and told me that it’s my fault because I didn’t see the key on the table - which was hidden and I didn’t have a clue it was even there - the property is a mess so it’s not easy to spot things there even if you look for it.
The host also recommended tours and a massage that was highly overpriced and very unprofessional.
For me, it’s a big NO and would not recommend staying there. Rooms are very poor looking and no one cleans them during your stay either.
THE WIFI wasn’t working the whole stay for me or my friend.
I wouldn’t feel safe going back there - really really disappointing and frustrating experience.

Read moreThe most wonderful place to stay in Sigiriya, hands down! The host family is incredibly warm and friendly, making you feel right at home from the moment you step in. Now, about the rooms, if you opt for the non-AC room, there's a bit of an extra charge to get that refreshing AC breeze, which trust me, is a must in August.
They really came through with fantastic suggestions for places to explore—gotta love their local insights! And guess what? They've got everything covered, from renting motorcycles, cars, and taxis to even providing bicycles for those leisurely rides.
Our stay was an absolute delight. It's not just about the comfortable rooms, but the whole vibe they've got going on. So, if you're planning a trip to Sigiriya, this place is your golden ticket to a friendly, happy, and all-around...
Read morestaying with this family feels like being at home. They are warm and welcoming hosts. The price is absolute good for what you get. They offer bikes for a reasonable price too. Sigiriya is great to explore it on bikes. There are mountains but the area is mostly flat, thats very scenic. The people in the villages around doesnt see much foreigners, so they are curious to meet you. The whole vibe is chilled and we stayed longer. The Homestay is right at the main road, so the infrastructure is well and Sigiriya rock is very close (walking distance) too. You mom could not make better breakfirst, if you are lucky and get the coconut rotis! The family also offer safaries. We have not checked them, so cant say...
