The frescoes at Sigiriya are absolutely breathtaking! These ancient murals, depicting celestial maidens, are some of the most vibrant and well-preserved art pieces I’ve ever seen. The colors and details are extraordinary, especially considering they were created over 1,500 years ago. What makes them truly unique is their location, painted high on the rock wall, giving the feeling that these figures are floating in the air. What’s also fascinating is the connection to the famous frescoes of the Ajanta Caves in India. The style, the portrayal of figures, and the artistic techniques show a strong influence from Indian art traditions, particularly from the Gupta period. You can see a shared sense of grace and movement in the figures, which adds to the rich cultural heritage of the region. If you're an art lover or a history buff, these frescoes are a must-see. They offer a window into the artistic brilliance of that era and the cultural exchange between Sri Lanka and India. Truly a unique treasure!

The Sigiriya Frescoes, dating back to the 5th century AD, are ancient paintings found on the western face of the Sigiriya rock fortress in Sri Lanka. They are considered some of the oldest and best-preserved frescoes in Sri Lanka, showcasing the remarkable artistic abilities and technical skills of the ancient artists. These frescoes primarily depict female figures, often portrayed as emerging from clouds and carrying flowers or offering trays. The women are rendered with exquisite detail and vibrant colors, achieved through the use of natural mineral pigments that have remarkably withstood the test of time. The interpretation of the Sigiriya Frescoes remains a subject of debate. Some believe they represent the royal ladies of King Kasyapa's court, while others suggest they depict celestial nymphs or goddesses. Regardless of their precise meaning, these paintings are an invaluable part of Sri Lanka's cultural and artistic heritage. The unique features of the Sigiriya Frescoes lie in their delicate execution and vibrant color palette. They offer a compelling glimpse into the advanced artistic techniques and aesthetic sensibilities of ancient Sri Lankan artists. Consequently, the Sigiriya Frescoes hold a prominent place in Sri Lanka's cultural and artistic legacy, drawing admiration from art enthusiasts and...

A lot of people wrote that $35 is a rip-off, but they don't understand why the price point is important. Whenever a place becomes an attraction for free or very cheap, most people start treating the environment very poorly, throwing rubbish in the middle of the pathway or up on top.

I was very happy coming here as the view is impressive, it wasn't crowded, and you can meditate up there without any problems. And then watching the frescoes is so wonderful. I love the fact that you cannot fly drones or take pictures of the frescoes. You guys are doing an amazing job preserving such an...
