The only positive thing about the place was the owner. He was super helpful, showing me all the temples I could visit for free and helped me with the timetables of the train. Also on the first night the Wifi was broken and he gave me a hotspot from his phone until it got fixed. Other than that and the cheap price, I cannot really recommend this place. It seems like the owner is renting out his own apartment as a hostel.
There is only 1 big room with 2 bunk beds inside. Basically no privacy as the curtains on the beds are only half attached. Each bed has its own fan (they also worked), which is super necessary as there are no mosquito nets and the mosquitos are insane at night. The matress and cushions were also worn out. The kitchen is super run down and the bathroom was quite filthy and so small I had troubles keeping my towel dry while showering.
There is no actual lock on the front door, it's just a bicycle lock on a metal grill.
As there is only one room, there are not many people around in the hostel. I was lucky with my roommates (all male), but female solo travellers may feel unsafe. The location of the Hostel is top for visiting the temeples and close to the bus stand, however the road has nearly no street lights, so going back to the hostel in the evening, can be...
Read moreA budget-friendly hostel, well located in the city center and right next to a beautiful lagoon. The beds are double, spacious for one person, comfortable, and equipped with a fan, which helps with both the heat and mosquitoes. Guests also have access to a small kitchen, adding to the convenience.
The owner is a really nice guy who goes out of his way to make your stay as smooth as possible. He also rents bicycles for exploring the area. The prices are very affordable—1,000 LKR per night and 1,000 LKR for a 24-hour bike rental.
Of course, for this price, you shouldn’t expect luxury, but it’s a great place to stay with all the basic facilities you need. I enjoyed my time here, met other travelers, and would definitely...
Read moreThe owner is very hospitable and friendly. He organised a safari to wilpattu park for us and even joined on the trip which was lovely. He helped us arrange travel, gave recommendations for food and was very knowledgable about nearby temples and attractions including those that are paid entry and free to visit. The hostel room has double sized bunk beds and was very comfortable. Each bed fitted with its own fan. Its a small budget hostel in a very good location at a very cheap price. Wifi connection throughout the stay...
