Lilly Guest Inn — Hotel in Sri Lanka

This guesthouse was highly recommended by some friends, and they were right! We arrived on the train from Kandy in the afternoon, and even though we had not informed the owner of this, he was waiting at the train station to pick us up. It was a short drive to the Guesthouse, where we met his wife and daughter, were given tea and made arrangements for a trip the following morning to Lipton's Peak (to watch the sunrise - early start but awesome!) We explained that we are vegan, but this was not a problem, and the lady of the house made us the most amazing dinner, with several curries, rice, drink and dessert. There was a small additional charge for dinner - and I mean small, especially given the quantity and quality of the meal. Delicious! ||||Our room was very nice and clean with a comfortable bed and a nice balcony, where we sat outside and just listened to the night-time nature sounds of Haputale. We also had a private bathroom with lovely shower (bring your own toiletries). We were only staying overnight, to visit Lipton's Seat, after which we had the most AMAZING breakfast (my first time trying coconut sambal, soooo good!) The owner had then arranged for the same driver to take us to Udawalawa, which is 3 hours away, for a reasonable price. DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE. We checked in to this place on last Friday 05th November for 2 days stay and over the phone we were informed room only price is Rs. 6500/- per night. Unfortunately we had to depart after staying only 01 day for a personal reason & at the departing time they said room only price is Rs 8,500/- per night. As we haven't got a price confirmation we had to pay that amount for this cheaters. Overnight experience was really disgusting as well. One of our crew member was about to have a wash around 10pm and got to know hot water was not working. After informing the owner he visited annoyingly switched on some switches and ask us to check. At the time it was working properly and owner blamed us we did not know to operate the tap properly 😂 he even said that we were disturbing for his sleep at that time. So that’s our horrifying experience there & I do not recommend this place for anybody to stay. Still if you had to stay for any reason do not forget to get a price confirmation...

Everything to know: The owner of LILLY is very friendly and helpful. We were warmly welcomed with a tea and he took as much time as we needed to answer every question about Haputale.

What we really liked is that he told us the answers to our questions without trying to sell some trips or other things (can happen in other guest houses or hotels).

He also made us a takeaway breakfast at 5am when we wanted to go to the Lipton Seat. If you can, take the breakfast in place since they cook freshly for you. The breakfast was authentic Sri Lankan and really nice!

To the train station you can walk in ~15/20min, via the normal road or via the train tracks.
