I made a reservation for this place a few weeks before our planned check-in date . The reviews and images appeared to be quite promising.
During my communication with the property manager, I was required to make a deposit payment to secure the reservation. I complied and engaged in direct conversations with the manager. However, when I requested a standard invoice receipt, my initial inquiry was met with laughter. After explaining my need for a receipt, the manager eventually understood the importance, although I never received the requested formal receipt—only a confirmation message via WhatsApp.
The deposit amounted to half of the total. However, upon our arrival for our vacation, I was taken aback by the stark contrast between the place as described and depicted, and the actual reality.
The surroundings of the property were far from what the pictures had portrayed or what I had been told. Regrettably, the house was situated in an area that could be described as a slum, definitely not what you'd want for a nice vacation.
Moreover, the property was advertised as a two-story house, yet in actuality, it only allowed the second floor and an attic. Unbeknownst to me, there were tenants residing on the first floor. This crucial detail had never been communicated to me prior to our arrival.
When I confronted the manager about these issues upon reaching the property, his response was dismissive, suggesting that our stay would be satisfactory despite the evident disparities. Unfortunately, this assurance was only applicable to him, as my purpose for being there was to unwind during a holiday. Clearly, the property had been misrepresented both in verbal descriptions and through the provided images.
The rooms and living area turned out to be considerably smaller than anticipated, leading to an unfortunate lack of privacy due to the thin walls that allowed every sound to be heard. The manager showed no regard for our dissatisfaction. When we expressed our desire for a refund of our deposit, his response implied that the property was indeed of good quality and that our reluctance to stay was solely due to the neighbourhood’s ambiance. Naturally, one would hardly choose to vacation in a slum.
The photographs provided were poor in representing the true dimensions of the rooms and the overall state of the property. No reparation or apology was offered by the manager, leaving us with a highly disappointing experience.
It is my earnest hope that no one else should endure such an unjust and disappointing encounter.
Our arrival at the property around 1:30 to 2:00 pm. This discrepancy resulted in an entire day being wasted as we embarked on an unplanned search for an alternative option in Nuwara Eliya.
Fortunately, we managed to secure a pleasant alternative after much effort. Unfortunately, the so-called "Nuwara Eliya Holiday Home" with its purportedly positive reviews left us with doubts about the authenticity of those reviews, wondering whether they were merely posted by friends and family of the property owner.
Exhausted from our journey from Colombo, we were left both physically and financially drained. Not a single cent of our deposit was returned. It is my sincere advice to anyone perusing these seemingly favourable reviews to exercise caution and not be swayed by them. The property falls far short of its advertised merits, residing in an unfavourable location and accommodating unexpected occupants.
I can only recommend booking this place if a disappointing and regrettable vacation...
Read moreOur experience at Nuwara Eliya Holiday Home was truly wonderful. The first time, our whole family of eight stayed together, and we all loved it! The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and the place really felt like a warm homestay. The cabana rooms were beautiful and added a nice touch to the stay. A special thanks to Mr. Indunil for his kind and professional hospitality — he was always helpful and made sure everything went smoothly for us. On our second visit, my husband and I went alone, and though we arrived late, Indunil quickly arranged our check-in without any hassle. We enjoyed a peaceful, relaxing stay once again. The rates are very reasonable for the quality and service provided. Highly recommended for families, couples, and friends visiting...
