Another pause on on a whistle-stop tour, Gasthof Hirschen was the perfect driving respite!||||We arrived in the dark and entered through beautifully lit stone arcades with outdoor seating, complete with cosy throws and blankets. ||||The lady on check in was very friendly and helpful when we mentioned we wanted to go for a walk and find some dinner on the way. ||||We returned later to our gorgeous room for a very restful night. The bed was huge and super comfortable. I thought the wonkiness was great but it's certainly an odd sensation in the morning walking downhill to the bathroom (which was also huge, very clean and beautifully decorated.)||||We woke up to wonderful views of the river and landscape, and a very, very good breakfast. We were offered local Bircher muesli - definitely accept as it's so creamy and delicious!||||Before leaving for another days driving we purchased two bottles of Vivi Kola for later in our trip - a cola like soft drink launched in Eglisau 75 years ago, it's enjoying a successful revival as of 2010! ||||It was certainly a treat to say in such a beautiful building so...

It had a lovely view on the Rhine and the part of town on the other bank. ||||Brace yourself for a truly exhilarating experinece at the Restaurant. The set menu comprises 13 dishes and every one of them provides an explosion of the senses. The vegetarian "Noix Gras" is almost as rich as the duck original. But then the "Rib of Pike" was totally out of orbit: the Chef had assembled pieces of glazed pike to a compact structure and stuck a bone into it. It looked like a lamb chop and this was purely intentional. The taste was simply divine. This was higly inventive fare with pronounced flavours and mulitple "wow"-effects. Go there for a unique and crazy...
Read moreThe property is located on the Rhein River and our room had an amazing view. We had a wonderful breakfast every morning and the staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant. The room was modern and super clean, but the hotel itself is a historical building almost 500 years old. There is a small beach and changing rooms nearby and it is possible to swim in the river. Over the bridge and near the hotel you can rent kayaks and SUP’s. It is about a 15 minute walk from the train station and downhill. It is uphill going back to the station but you can take a bus (5 min. ) or call a taxi. There is a wonderful bar/tapas on the river with live music about a 5 min. walk from he hotel called Vivi Kola. Opens at 3pm. Get there early 5pm to get a seat. Loved our stay in his quiet village. Lots of beautiful walks...
