So this is one of the cheapest hotels in or near Basel (and best in mind this is Switzerland where everything is expensive compared to the UK). Our family of 5 stayed here twice on route to and from Italy, during Covid (14/08/20 and 20/08/20).||Location isn’t great but it is 5 minutes off the motorway and hidden within an Industrial Estate. Look for the Lumimart lighting store with the MagicX sexshop above (with giant naked woman in the window, much to our teenage son’s delight).||Hotel is setup well with good Covid protections in place. Restaurant is obviously closed but there’s a breakfast takeaway bag (coffee, orange juice, 2x mini croissants, bread roll and jams etc) available for 8CHF each and you’ll have to eat in your room as all communal areas are closed. We didn’t think it was great value and on our second visit, found a Conforama mall around the corner, a McDonalds and an Ikea that does breakfast but doesn’t open until 10am.||There’s a coin coffee machine in the lobby 2.50CHF but it only takes Swiss franc coins and not euros.||Staff on reception were polite, pleasant and efficient, and spoke multiple languages with a smile.||Rooms are typical double with single bunk above. They’re clean and convenient. Don’t bring a cat though as you won’t be able to swing it around.|You know it’s budget as there’s no locks on the bathroom door and the loo paper is that waxy stuff. But they’re clean and you can’t hear next door flushing.||We booked two rooms during each visit and were always put next door to each other.||One major negative that left a bad taste is having to pay 10CHF for parking in their narrow carpark. Second visit we parked on the road (no lines or notices) but we’re told we had to park in the carpark.|Seriously? 10CHF for parking in an Industrial Estate with ample street parking around? Felt a bit conned, but it’s a cheap hotel and they have to make their money somehow.||There is no restaurant here but there are multiple fooderies within walking distance. See my other review for Tado Restaurant which we went to twice because it was so good.||All in all, will stay here again if passing...
Read moreStayed here during Eurovision as it was one of the cheaper options available. The positives are that it's only a few minutes walk from Pratteln train station, which has frequent trains (roughly every 15 minutes from my experience) into Basel's main station, with the journey being only 10 minutes. Also not too far from the airport. The staff I encountered were all very friendly, and we were able to leave our luggage for a few hours on the day we left, as our flight wasn't until late - wasn't sure whether they would offer this at such a budget hotel. There's also a tram stop a slightly further walk away, which connects directly with St Jakob, very useful if going to an event there.||Breakfast was included in the cost but the selection was VERY limited and the seating area rather small (didn't help one day that there was a group of four people taking up a table, all sat typing on laptops rather than actually eating), though when there's not a big event going on this probably isn't a problem as there's such little choice, people will either be quick at breakfast or decide to go elsewhere.||The room was small, no drawers or cupboard to store clothes, just a few hangers. The shower and sink are both right next to the bed, with the toilet in a small room as you enter. The only thing that really bothered me about this was the room with the toilet didn't have a door handle, just a circular hole where a handle would normally be. I'd only stay at this hotel either alone, or with someone I'm very comfortable with, because privacy is not a thing.||What I didn't realise before coming to Switzerland was that the country uses a different type of plug to the rest of Europe. Thankfully they sell adaptors (along with a few other things you might need) down at reception, at a cost of 20 CHF.||Overall I wouldn't say I had a negative experience or view of this hotel. I'm giving it 2/5 as I feel like it's aiming for 2/5, so...
Read moreThis is a less expensive hotel than the IBIS Budget in south Basel. I thought that it was because it is out in a suburb, one half hour's tram ride away. But it really does lack amenities. There is no ice available (and it was hot), no coffee in the rooms.. There are no phones in the room, so you can't call for help if you need it. They advertise 10 minutes walk from the station, but it was 17 for me without luggage, 20 minutes with. I asked 6 people how to find it before someone knew. There is a but, but it is hard to tell which direction it is going. Getting to the IBIS requires a detailed map. Go across the railway tracks towards a building with several geometric designs and multicoloured polka dots. Keep going past other murals. At the peanut mural, turn left. Proceed until you come to the roundabout with multicoloured head outlines. Cross the avenue and head right. At the next traffic circle turn left. Go down the hill and keep going straight, the around the bend and you will see the IBIS beyond the car dealership. This seems to be a hotel favoured by crews and possibly men looking for work. There are often men hanging around outside the door. Front desk staff was very helpful. Like other hotels in Basel, I was given a transit pass for trams and buses, but unlike other hotels I had to ask for it. Breakfast is under 15 swiss francs, but there is no hot food. There is a shopping centre next door, with a car ramp that runs to the rooftop parking. If you walk up the ramp, you can go down through the shopping centre as a short cut. Near...
