3.5 star but could have been excellent. We had a decent stay in the hotel. It is a lovely looking hotel with a new modern feel incorporating a classic wood design. The lounge is cosy and it has a lovely wooden fireplace.
The hotel is conveniently located in Saanen a few minutes walk from the centre and a short drive to Gstaad (or 30 min walk) with walking paths close-by. The room was a good size but strangely had two single beds put together. There was no tea in the room. Parking is free. Breakfast has an ok selection although croissants are only available on weekends. We had a private balcony which was a bonus.
The welcome from reception was not very warm and we were just given our room cards with no offer of help with our luggage or description or tour of hotel facilities. We arrived on a Saturday night and the restaurant was very busy with staff rushing around. The restaurant seems to only has one vegetarian dish therefore is not very friendly to halal or vegetarian people. However the owner was kind enough to come over later in the evening to check in on if we were able to make arrangements for dinner which was a nice touch. Housekeeping was below average with the room and bathroom not fully cleaned and made up to an acceptable standard. We requested an iron which took a significant time to come, so much so we decided to go out, upon our return we found it was not working and was leaking water on the table where it was left. We had to use the housekeeping iron in the basement whereas it would have been more convenient to give us another working iron in our room.
The hotel is of good value and I would recommend a stay. With a few tweaks would be an excellent choice to stay in the...
Read moreThe Spitzhorn has all that you might expect for a 3 stars mountain hotel!||||The place is warm and very clean. You feel confortable and the staff is very welcoming and accommodating (very nice owner too). We made some last minute changes which were quickly taken care of. The ski lifts are in 10 minutes by bus from the hotel and the bus station is in 5 minutes walking.||||The SPA is a real plus, it's very beautiful, clean and spacious. The isolation between the massage room, the pool and the sauna zone could be better. We could hear someone rehearsing the piano while having our massages and also people shouting in the swimming pool while being in the sauna which is not ideal but didn't prevent us form enjoying the facilities and relaxing. ||||We had a south exposed room with a terrasse, very bright and quiet with a comfortable bed. We were only a bit surprised that the bathrobe wasn't available in the room and that we had to pay a supplement for it. Other than that it was perfect.||||We would definitely...
Read moreA superb location to visit the beautiful Saarnen and Gstaadt... probably the best hospitality ever witnessed in my 15 years in Switzerland. Good sized rooms with balconies, some facing the majestic Alps, we had a family room for 4 persons with great beds. Nice and clean throughout- has a nice cosy and traditiional Swiss feel, lots of earthy wood used throughout and a real wood fire at night! Tasty gourmet restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Easy parking. Spa was perfect. Could pay a little attention to detail, shampoo in the spa had finished! And would it be too much to add coffee/tea facilities in the rooms? We do like a cup in the early morning :-) .. Will certainly visit again. Thank you to the superb owners who personally welcomed us and all the lovely hard working staff, you were just great!!! A trip to remember- special regards from Alvin our...
