LOCATION: Hotel Villa Post is located in the small alpine village of Vulpera. To reach the Hotel via public transport, travel by train or bus to Scuol-Tarasp station then take bus service 923 to the ‘Tarasp, Vulpera’ stop and walk about 300m down the main road to Villa Post.||If you intend to go on day trips, Scuol-Tarasp station has good connections enabling you to explore the wider region with ease. However, bus frequency is quite poor with service 923 running on hourly intervals between Scuol & Vulpera.||Vulpera has a golf course and outdoor swimming pool within walking distance of the Hotel. The imposing landmark of Chastè Tarasp is a brisk 45-min hike from here, the 11th Century Castle is a Swiss heritage site and well worth a visit. It’s also accessible via bus service 923, alight at the ‘Tarasp, Fontana’ stop then walk uphill for about 10 mins to reach the castle.||ROOM: Villa Post is a small independent hotel with 25 rooms, each with its own unique layout & décor. I had a fairly clean and functional Single Room with Balcony. It was compact in size but well-appointed with single bed; minuscule bedside table with reading lamp; wall-mounted TV; work desk with lamp & chair; and even a mini fridge! Bottle of drinking water thoughtfully provided on desk. If you wish to make tea, electric kettle is available from Reception. ||Room has 2 tall narrow cabinets for storage: one with shelving & safe-deposit box and the other with hangers & foldable luggage rack. Next to the door are several sturdy wall hooks for hanging coats & hats.||Balcony looks out onto the garden and surrounding mountains. It’d have been lovely to enjoy a cup of tea out there and admire the views but alas, it was not an inviting spot to linger... There were cobwebs and dust in every nook and cranny coupled with thick grime on every surface, especially the deck and balustrade. Balcony apparently has not been cleaned for ages as there was dried up bird poo all over the patio furniture.||BATHROOM: well-lit, clean and of good size. Furnished with the usual: huge mirror over wash basin; hairdryer; shower stall; and toilet. Adequate provision of clean bath linen, toilet rolls, box of tissues and basic toiletries like liquid soap, shampoo & body lotion.| |F&B: room rate is inclusive of daily breakfast, served in a traditional Engadine dining room with Swiss stone pine furnishings. Buffet breakfast comprises: good selection of breads & cereals; jams & butter; müesli; yoghurt; assorted cheeses and cold cuts. Eggs are prepared à la minute according to your preference. Beverage choices include milk, fruit juices, tea & coffee.||Due to food allergies & lactose intolerance, I often have to skip breakfast whenever I travel as usually there isn’t much that I could safely consume – Villa Post is a rare exception where I actually enjoyed the breakfast. The Hotel provides a generous spread with lots of choices, even for those with dietary restrictions.||SERVICE: the English-speaking Receptionist was approachable and helpful; she patiently attended to queries and kindly assisted with various requests. Breakfast Hostess was likewise cordial and obliging, she tried to seat me at my preferred table each morning and prepared the eggs just the way I liked them. ||Housekeeping was rather remiss in its duties. Besides the dismal neglect of balconies as noted above, staff also had a tendency to forget to replenish guest amenities in room. However, any omission was quickly rectified when brought to their attention.||FACILITIES: Free WiFi is available throughout the property. Upper floors are accessible via Lift. On the ground floor is a Guest Lounge with fireplace – I imagine it’d be a cosy place to relax in winter. ||Out in the garden, you will find a small Museum Café where they display a collection of memorabilia from the historic Hotel Waldhaus which burned down in 1989. In fact, the whole of Villa Post is like a Living Museum full of fascinating artefacts and antiques reflecting Vulpera’s history and heritage as a Belle Époque Spa Resort.||IN SHORT: Hotel Villa Post is a beautiful historic property that offers well-appointed rooms, hearty breakfast and excellent hospitality. The idyllic setting is conducive to rest and relaxation - guests are likely to enjoy a tranquil,...
Read moreWe had to return to Scuol due to an unfortunate car accident that happened somewhere between the Swiss and Austrian border. One moment, we were navigating the chaos of Scuol; the next, we were pulling up to a hotel so beautiful it felt like fate had led us there. And when we woke up the next morning, bathed in golden light, we had a fleeting thought—maybe we hadn’t survived the crash after all, because this is definitely heaven!
The owner was kind, attentive, funny, and welcomed us like old friends. The food in the restaurant tasted like comfort itself, and every corner of the hotel carried the touch of someone who had poured their heart into it. It was a place that whispered: You’re safe now. Stay a while.
And so, despite the wreckage—both literal and figurative—we found ourselves wrapped in something unexpectedly wonderful. For two days, we let the mountains hold us, let the quiet work its magic, let the serendipity of it all soften what had been rough.
The hotel even included free public transportation and cable car access, allowing us to experience the town from every angle—like a gift we hadn’t asked for but so desperately needed.
This is one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed in while in...
Read moreWe spent about a week in Engadin on the slopes and decided for this little hotel based on what we saw on their web site. Whatever we expected it was surpassed by this splendid little hotel.||It is owned/managed by a very nice and forthcoming couple. They care for you the moment you step into their hotel and the staff is the same. They will literally go through fire and water to serve you.||They brought us to and from the lifts in Scuol and whenever we were going down from the pists, we would give them a call, and they would be waiting for us. Always with a smile and curious as to how our day was.||We had 2 rooms, which were nice and clean and with a splendid view over the valley and mountains. ||The breakfast was fine, but we were missing a selection of eggs, omelet etc. We did not have lunch.||The only disappointing thing about the hotel was their dinner. The selection was limited and the portions were inadequate, especially when you have been skiing all day. This would be the only improvement we could see.||The lounge are was really nice for an afternoon coffee, cake or after skiing and with a fireplace to spice it up with.||We are definitely going back to this romantic, cosy...
