This is our first time camping overseas, we selected this campsite based on the other reviews and photos shared. It's honestly too good to not share it with others, so here goes.
We were greeted warmly upon arrival in the taxis (ntd600 from the vicinity of Hualien train station). The owners only speak Mandarin (and local dialects but that's not useful for tourists), which wasn't a problem for us. Google translate does a good job in this aspect. We were given a tour of the grounds and got a good orientation of which trails/paths/roads lead to where.
For families camping with children, you'd be pleased to know that the beach is only a short walk down a slope which starts directly at the camp's entrance!
They have a variety of camping spaces to choose from, I'll try my best to describe: -grass (open-air) -loose gravel (sheltered & open-air & under dense tree foliage) -wooden platform (open-air & under dense tree foliage) -tepee covers -tepees (glamping style) -walk-up cabins (air conditioned)
The site has a variety of dining areas that come with foldable tables and chairs (first come first serve, keep the place clean as a responsible user).
There are plenty of wash basins and electricity power points, all of which are very accessible regardless of where you've chosen to set up your tent.
The toilets are very clean and well maintained, the cubicles with shower heads (functioning hot and cold water!!!) are also really clean. The usual rule of not flushing toilet paper down applies here as well.
The owners took note of our preferences and engaged us in conversation over some freshly brewed oolong tea, though I believe this to be a luxury afforded to us only because we were the only guests around. Though I think this speaks a lot about how hospitable they are, and I'm sure they'd do their best regardless of the traffic on any given day.
The bbq dinner was nothing short of a feast. The various meats were very well marinated, the seafood was fresh, local fresh fruits totally hit the spot as well, and we were even treated to some of their own dinner spread.
We brought our own tent, tarp, foldable table & chairs, stove, fuel, etc. (basically we were ready to be self-sufficient. BUT we learned that they provide there for rental as well, so you can save yourself the trouble of carrying all these in your luggage if you're coming from another country like us. I strongly recommend you to reach out to the owners in advance to iron out any queries you might have. Please keep it simple to give Google translate the best chance to get your query right. This will also give the owners plenty of time to understand your query correctly and respond accordingly.
They are still learning how to maximise their reach, and aren't particularly savvy online. I understand them to be active on Google and also IG, so try reaching out via...
Read moreHualien lazy camping is amazing. The hotel surpassed all my expectations! The staff was welcoming and accommodating right from the moment we checked in. The room was clean, and the view of the city from it was splendid. The breakfast spread was also quite tasty. I will certainly return during my next visit. The hotel is in a quiet area, but not far from the shops and restaurants. The room was tidy and fresh, and the staff are polite and offer a warm smile. Couldn’t have chosen a better place for a weekend retreat. It was great to relax. The staff at the front desk were exceptionally friendly, and the bed was remarkably comfortable. The bathroom was also extremely clean and had a good selection...
Read moreIt's a well-maintained campground. The host was incredibly friendly and attentive to the needs of their customers. We chose a tent site and were delighted with our stay. The availability of a dedicated sink for each unit made it convenient to clean up our cooking ingredients and equipment. All of their shower rooms are clean. The campground's proximity to the beach, just a 3-minute walk away, allowed us to witness breathtaking sunrises with the Taroko Qingshui Cliff. We will undoubtedly revisit it next time! On a side note, when the season is hot and humid, bring a spray, or wear long sleeves or pants to prevent you from getting bitten by the biting midge – Forcipomyia taiwana, they...
