Mary's Nice Place Lodge — Hotel in Pwani Region

At first look, the place looks nice and cosy, because it is far from main Bagamoyo city. We are two person went there for ester holiday. We spend first night at the 1st left room at the ground. I think it was a servant quarter before but now they use it as a room. The room is very poor condition. Bed sheets are ok but mosquito net is terrible. Toilets are not clean and not much water available. So next day morning we want to change the room and they gave us a room just top of their reception room. Water is ok but there is no fan. They told us we can use AC. So we took that room. After sometimes we feel AC not working. I checked that AC and found main problem was two windows do not have solid shutter and because of curtain you don’t realize it at first look or check in time. All windows have two shutter one for solid protection and another one with mosquito net. As that room is in first floor and there is a gentle breeze from sea side so we decide to stay in that room. After sometimes we went to beach and comeback after 3 hours. We open our door with keys and suddenly we realize our laptop is missing. Then after checking we realize we lost 4 mobile set, 1 laptop and cash 200000 Tsh. Then we report to the manager. The manager told us not to report to police and he is going to help us. It is his place he knows where thief can took our things to sale. He advice us to take rest and he left us. Then we realize that man somehow related to this incidence. They have duplicate keys and he knows that room is not OK. We realize actually we should not trust that man that he is going to help us. At next morning he told us it was night so he didn’t do anything but today he is going to find our stolen properties. We have no money to stay another day at that place so we left and he gave us a number. We came back to DAR and keep calling him. But he doesn’t receive our phone. Our realization is that man use his service staff a little boy to enter our room by toilet ventilation (It is a big window without any lock). That little boy took our things and go by the window as I mention before there is two window without solid shutter. From inside the room any one can open the mosquito shutter and go out of that room to the sunshade. When we realize our laptop missing, we found one of the mosquito nets was opened but that time we didn’t realize it that someone used it. Our first mistake we should check that room for security and second we shouldn’t trust those service staff one lady staff, one little boy and the manager(Someone told me he is the owner). Before leaving we also check other rooms condition from outside and we found most of their rooms are insecure and they hide it by curtain. They don’t have any locker in reception for keeping their guests valuable properties. They don’t provide lunch and dinner. They only provide breakfast. Most of the time water is not available. If you have valuable thinks stay other place....

We arrived a bit late in Bagamoyo after a long bus ride...so we opted to stay at Mary Nice Place which was a mistake! ||The staff couldn't be bothered to assist you, instead just sitting around & chatting. The room was full of Mosquitos and we asked for them to spray while we went for dinner, but nothing was done. ||The hotel is run down with broken steps, holes in screens, lack of water (hot or cold).||Breakfast was one egg cut in half & shared between 2 of us....no juice,milk or fruit....||If you want close to the beach with a cost of 35,000 per night then you might consider this spot....however there are far better lodges in town for the same price!!||I will not recommend this hotel to any...

The place is indeed very nice in a convient location, but it is crowded and sometimes loud. |Also the extra many mosquitos are annoying. The window mesh has holes.|Hot shower was not working, even when explicitly promised. Wifi also not worked.|Breakfast was extremely poor, but good dinner provided to a reasonable price.|Service by the boy was mainly ignoring me, the host instead was friendly and provided good attention.|In rain saison they charged me appr. 30% more than their regular rate (thus 20 instead 15,5 dollar) cause I looked as good money and I paid in $.||But it is really cosy with...
