We stayed at Chuini as our last stay here after spending nearly two weeks in zanzibar. On arrival at 2pm, our room was not ready. We waited just over half an hour for this. We headed out and came back late evening and noticed dirty duvet, bedsheets, pillows, towels, live and dead bugs all over the room. Unclean surfaces and mosquito net with rips which did not even cover the bed properly. We understand lodges cannot control amount of bugs, but there was even bugs in the tray where we were suppose to drink water and tea from. We stayed in a few lodges in Zanzibar with no issues. The wifi did not work at all either and the room was so far out that our data was not connecting too. As it was late, i decided to let the team know so it can be sorted the next day. The following day we was given a new room. The new room was nice, but still unclean sheets and no wifi connecting on either phones. Then, there was a very strong drain blockage smell in the room. As this room connected to the bathroom, we could smell this in the bedroom. We wasn’t feeling well at the time, and the smell made it worse. I let the team know again - who came over and said it is bad and they will give us another room right away. Being provided 3 rooms - all came with the same issues. The third room was ok - but still no wifi working, unclean pillows/sheets, but we decided to stay as we had 1 night left. The drinking glasses again, had loads of bugs crawling inside the glass and around. We couldn’t drink the water provided. The only good thing here is the staff were very helpful and accommodating - as was everyone we met who work and live in zanzibar. The staff helped us a lot when we felt unwell. Lodge roofs are not properly sealed hence all the bugs inside - as mentioned our previous lodges were perfectly fine. However, the manager definitely needs to put more money into housekeeping services and not cheap out on cleaning the lodges properly when guests are paying a lot of money per night to be here. We agreed on some compensation with the manager but it didn’t seem like he was surprised with what I stated and was a little defensive with certain things I said. The worst part was that it was no where near worth the money at all. Very gutted to end...

We got shown to our room upon arrival. The resort was very much empty. I think there 4 other rooms occupied throughout our stay but they still put us right at the back of the resort in a terribly under serviced and dirty room. It was right next to the other resort so you can only imagine how loud it was all night.
As soon as we walked into the room, my husband stepped on to the large rug to walk across the room. He said he felt something under the rug. It was a huge insect. I assumed that all hotels would take cleanliness very seriously but apparently checking under rugs is too much of a chore.
After a long journey we wanted to shower up and grab some food. Went into the toilet and was surprised at how underkept it is. Shower was seperate but that was no better. Towels were dirty and so were the robes provided.
Moving on to the bed. The mosquito net was very visibly stained. It was stomach turning. I have never been to a 4/5 star hotel and experienced this level of incompetence when it comes to cleanliness.
Moving on to the spa. I went to make a reservation around half 4 but it was closed. I asked the front desk if i could speak to the ladies working in the spa but apparently it was closed. It only stays open for a sgort time during the day which was a bit disappointing.
We then went to lunch in the evening. The view was beautiful. Food was good but extremely overpriced. I was quite shocked at the prices.
Other than that there is not much to do at all. Location is very out of the way so a taxi is needed to get down to the shops etc.
Overall, for the price you pay and their endless claims of how tip top their resort is, it was a huge disappointment and waste of money. Would not reccommend. Possibly the worst hotel I...
Read moreFirst off; rent a car! Arriving to hotel is a bit hesitating, you're getting off road and even with Google Maps assistance wouldn't make you feel comfortable. It's because their entrance is not on a mainstream street, it's remoteness is what makes this establishment unique and peaceful -main street is at least a 15 minutes walk away and there's literally no possible way for a foreigner to use public transport (open buses filled with people and packs). Once you arrive, you feel the tranquillity of Zanzibar. They offer you a welcome drink in the lobby looking the marvelous turquoise sea, and offer you a guide around the hotel and room. There's another special thing about here is, you experience the tide of the sea -the private beach is actually a small bay and within the day you can see it dried and then filled with water again in minutes. There's a pool within but I'd recommend getting in to sea after the tide. Amenities are free to use, food is good inside the hotel but hey, you're in a foreign place so instead biting some burgers inside, I'd recommend going out of the comfort zone and try exotic dishes somewhere else. I even took a tour out, watched Tanzanian kids playing some African football and had some shopping from a local grocery store without communicating through words. =) Back to subject; hotel personel is very helpful and has a very positive attitude. Breakfasts were amazing and way filling, both taste and view-wise. This was a stay I'd memorize until the...
