First of all big, big thanks to our lovely hosts Ina & Msuli for our wonderful stay in Kimurimuri. Kimurimuri is a little paradise with great attention to detail (e.g. the beautiful arrangement of the apartments, the great garden with different palms and very nice flowers, the clean pool, …). The kitchen is well-equipped and has everything you need for cooking. It looks even better than in the photos. It’s the perfect place for a relaxing and quiet holiday. Pongwe is by far not so touristic than other places in Zanzibar. The friendly staff cleaned the apartment when needed (including new good smelling towels & bed sheets) and the entrances were guarded day and night.
Ina & Msuli are two warmhearted guys who are always there for you. They supported us in shopping, planning trips (even beyond the normal touristic places) and finding good restaurants (there are some good restaurants in walking distance; our recommendation: Seasons Lodge). And if you’re interested they also give you a very, very interesting inside view about life in Zanzibar. Ina even went with us to Stonetown and showed us interesting places including the Darajani market where she supported us in buying spices.
Our personal highlight was walking on the beach when there was low tide. We were so impressed by the different shades of blue. Sometimes we were just lying on the white sand in knee deep, warm water about 500m away from the beach. In most cases we were completely alone (September).
It was a wonderful time for us and we didn’t...
Read moreWe had a fabulous family holiday over Christmas staying at Kimimuri in Pongwe. Msuli and Ina were incredibly helpful organising a driver to collect us from the airport; taking us grocery shopping, and arranging various, memorable trips and activities during our stay. They were extremely friendly and welcoming as were all the staff. And together they made sure that we were always comfortable and had everything we needed to relax and enjoy our stay. The accommodation was excellent, well-equipped and tastefully decorated with regular cleaning and change of linen and towels. The outside area was beautiful with lush flowering plants, comfortable seating and lounge areas, and a fantastic pool - all right next to the beach. Pongwe really suited us as a destination as it was peaceful and laidback, and free of the bustling crowds that we glimpsed in other towns. There are a number of bars and restaurants nearby serving a good selection of food and drink competitively priced for a UK visitor. We particularly liked Santa Maria, The Cliff sand Season’s Lodge as the staff were friendly and easy-going and made us feel very welcome. We would whole-heartedly recommend Kimurimuri as a place to stay and we hope to return there...
Read moreKimurimuri is a very special place. We were able to stay there as a group of seven people. Ina and Msuli were extremely helpful and did their best to make our stay an unforgettable one. What I enjoyed especially is the privacy of Kimurimuri. It feels super safe and the beach is not too crowded. It’s not immediately next to other hotels but rather close to the locals. This was a huge pro as well. What we appreciate is the approach of Ina and Msuli to support the locals. The staff is around all the time and is very happy to help. Even if their English is not too good, they’ll find a way to help. You can really see that it’s the owners goal to fit into the island and not make it their own. This is rare to find elsewhere. But still you feel very welcomed even if your home country is very different compared to Tanzania. The appartements are super clean and beautifully set up. The kitchen provides everything you’ll need for cooking.
Sometimes there were a few problems with electricity and water supply. This is a problem of the surrounding communities not just Kimurimuri. But they were able to fix it very quickly and if you’re a little flexible you won’t have a hard time with it at all.
All in all: Thank you. It’s...
