Not sure if words are enough to describe Mama Root. It is beautiful place! Olivia and Zuberi have created something unique. This is completely opposite to hotels full of emptiness. We were enjoying this place really much. Almost every piece of the place is crafted by themselves. You can feel artistic intention everywhere. Outside there are very cool places to relax, from hamacks, sunbeds to beautifully modified old boat from one tree trunk for a sitting. The place is really exhalarating! It felt like a beautiful new better home. The meals, prepared by them were refreshing and so tasty! I had there even best octopus I ever had! Olivia and Zuberi are such friendly and nice people too. We were lucky to go for a adventoures trip with Olivia and I have to admire, it was best part of our 3 weeks on Zanzibar. Surrounding is very nice too. Small beach, reef, very nice rocks around. If you are curious and exploring person, I think this should be your main goal on Zanzibar. It has my highest recommendation.

We had an amazing experience at Mama Root! The place is eco-friendly, and everything is handmade with so much care. The food, drinks, and coffee were all incredibly tasty and full of flavor. The view is stunning, making the whole atmosphere even more special. Olivia, the owner, pays great attention to every detail, which really shows in every aspect of the experience. And the dogs they are absolutely adorable! They watch over the tourists like little guardians, they event went with us on a walk which is both funny and heartwarming. All the staff are super friendly We had a blast and we really recommend The only small improvement we’d suggest is making the entrance sign a bit bigger, as we had a little trouble spotting it at first. Everytjing is perfect

Booked three nights, ended up staying two weeks. The food is spectacular and the service is so great. The menu changes daily, except for one of the lunch options, the Tropical Smile. Whatever you do, don’t miss it. The owner is wonderfully friendly and very keen on that you have everything you might need. She’ll help you book any activity you’re looking to experience, even though the lounge area is so relaxing you might very well stay there for days. The views are to die for and the location feels very local if you decide to wander around the community. The beers are cold and the juices are on demand. An absolute favourite!

We just spent 6 lovely days at Mama Root and I can honestly say I wouldn't change a thing. I was really struggling to know where to stay in Zanzibar- noting the tides but wanting access to the sea, not wanting a party vibe but still having access to do things. Mama Root is the place to be! First of all, the owners and staff are so lovely and attentive. Always checking if you need anything, how you are and if you need any help with your plans. Secondly, the place itself- I don't want to call it a hotel because it's so much more than that- it's a home away from home. The decor has been so well thought out, each room is unique and there is so much seating. There aren't a lot of rooms so sometimes it feels like you have the whole place to yourself, looking straight out onto the beach front at the beautiful blue waters. Swimming was an option every day, if not twice and Mama Root is happy to organise trips for you, personalising around your requests. I can recommend going out with Ali to see the mangroves and his village- amazing. They cook for only the guests every lunch and dinner- you can choose if you want to eat or not and the food is so fresh and delicious. Breakfast was always yummy with choices of eggs, avocado, cinnamon toast or pancakes accompanied with fruit and lovely juice and coffee. They have everything there you might need- a help yourself bar (with a very clever system to keep track of who is having what!), snorkeling masks, beach towels, fans, beach bags, suncream etc. With missing our doggy at home, we also appreciated having access to doggies (which don't bother you unless you pay them attention). On our last evening to celebrate the end of our honeymoon, the team set up a dinner on the beach for us with a seafood platter and wine- it was so romantic and they had thought through every detail including lights, music, the cushions etc. I would stay at Mama Root's again in a heartbeat. Thank you for such a wonderful stay and wishing you...

What should I say about this little piece of paradise on earth. Our stay in Mama Root was the highlight of our holiday! We loved everything about it. The house is amazing, clean, comfortable, fresh and cozy! The room was also big and super clean. Olivia and Zube are great hosts! We felt these days truly at home :) She took care of all the details. She helped us with everything we asked for. We wanted to do the Safari Blue from here but for one or other reason we couldn't, so she organized an amazing boat trip for us and another couple who was staying for a week there. She came with us and ask the boat Captain to take us to very special spots that you would never see by yourself, like abandoned hotels on a white sandy beach (all for ourselves) that was actually the best beach we saw during our holidays. We are thankfull for it. We didn't want to leave. And the food! Wow. I think they should get also a Michelin star for it! For example; vanille mash potatoes. They way it's presented and the taste was superb! There's also a sweet dog around, Kibibi, who accompanied as on our walks on the beach and was all the time with us. Seriously, if you are in Zanzibar, Mama Root is a must....
