Read moreWas looking for a quick and short trip to Zanzibar and found Moonshine Villa. The name reminder me of my bankpack trips about 30 years ago. Rapid + efficient online booking, attractive rate, so why not. Pro active approach on transport, which @140US was heavily overpriced, but fine. On arrival the hasty 'receptionist requested to pay 5US for breakfast (I am convinced breakfast included) another 5% commission for paying by debet card (upfront) and although no big amount, this is what I hate. Offering this service comes at a cost THEY will have to absorb. Not me. At least tell the people on booking at will be charged. When entering the room I physically went back in time by 30 years. Clean, flowers on the bed, but salty - probably borehole - water, very strong sulphur smell in the bathroom, lose toiletseat, concrete pillow to sleep on, noisy ceiling fan which stopped working just after the neighbours ended the party...|I wonder what criteria booking.com used to reward this...

It got a bit frustrating and we ended up lying at the villa to avoid having to ask people to leave us alone. I'm glad we experienced another part of the island because this would have been a really disappointing stay. Marco's parents were friendly, but the English/Italian language barrier was a bit tough at times. The bathroom only has salty water from the taps and be sure to take your own...
