2 nights at the Royal City Hotel, Bangkok. 3 stars is a bit too much. The location is good, but in general the hotel suffers from a lack of upgrading and maintenance. the water pressure and access to hot water is insufficient at times, at least on the upper floors. Very noisy in common areas outside the rooms. Elevators work great. Free parking. Breakfast on the lower scale of what you can expect at a breakfast buffet, and a coffee machine that takes several minutes to brew a cup of coffee, and there are only cardboard cups to choose from for coffee and tea. If you are unfortunate enough to press the door lock when you leave the room, which is quite normal to do in Thailand, you will be locked out when you want to enter the room again. The key cannot then open the door from the outside, and help must be sought to get the door opened. This can take time and will take time before help arrives. The swimming pool is not the place of pleasure. Is soiled and the hot tub is dirty and without water. No shower to rinse off before and after a trip in the pool, toilets adjacent to the swimming pool are closed. Clearly expect that you will not need the toilet at the time you want to sunbathe or swim. Incredibly negative experience, better to be closed...

Read moreWe spent 4 nights here just last week. I’ll try to be as objective as possible. Firstly, upon check in, we were asked to deposit 1000 baht for the room key. Even though they have the option of charging it through my credit card, they still insisted on the cash basis. First inconvenience, as think if it is your last day in Thailand, where else will you be able to spend the 1000 cash if you’re leaving the country. The shift supervisor was rude as well. Second inconvenience, NO WIFI signal in the rooms. It has a barely limited radius which is within the lobby area only. Third, the rooms are old. It smells like old, damped carpet. The bath tubs aren’t properly cleaned. The television set channels are too limited. To sum it up, disappointing. What’s good about the hotel? The buffet breakfast. They change menus everyday. Overall, if they can only listen to the reviews and improve the necessary things to change, there’s so much potential in this hotel. But for now, we can only hope...
