Well, after a lot of searching we finally found a place on the beach, away from the bigger resort areas, within our budget, and overall, we weren't disappointed.||The good||The location is ideal. Right on a stretch of gorgeous sand with a shallow stretch of sea protected by a shelf of rocks a hundred metres offshore. With young kids, nothing could have been better. Crystal clear waters, clean beaches, and just what the doctor ordered. The staff were very welcoming, and the resort provides free masks and snorkels as well as skiffs for up to three people to paddle out over the shallow sea. There are plenty of fish to see so it's definitely worth taking advantage of these. There's a great collection of tables, sun loungers, swings, and hammocks for you to use, and most have umbrellas to protect you from the harsh May sun. It was incredibly hot at this time and I don't think we were quite prepared for that.|The staff were very responsive when we asked for some things to be fixed in the room, such as a missing towel rail from the bathroom, an iced-up fridge, a broken remote control. and these are were resolved within a day or two.|Perhaps the best thing about the resort is the restaurant and bar. The food was, we thought, exceptional value and of really good quality. My daughter couldn't eat enough of the spaghetti with pork and tomato and the spaghetti with bacon and chilli is excellent. Also good value is the barbecue set which we had for lunch at least twice. There's enough for 3 or 4 people with just one set. The bar is a great place to relax in the evening though I wish they were a bit more imaginative and varied with their happy hour cocktails.||The not so good||I've mentioned the problems with the fixtures and fittings in the room. What I find annoying is that guests need to tell staff that a towel rail has been removed, and that the fridge is so iced up as to be unusable. For the price, these things should be checked at least between guest bookings. The wooden laminate flooring in the bungalows has been pretty badly warped and there are gaps between the ends of the boards. This doesn't give a good first impression but perhaps the most annoying thing about the room was the design of the bathroom which seems to have been done by someone with no sense of what should go where. When you open the door to the bathroom, it brushes the side of the toilet seat, which inevitably means the toilet seat is constantly loose. Mad idea to put a toilet just inside a door. I don't think I've ever come across a design like that before. The shower location and the way it's attached to the wall means that anything near the sink gets totally soaked unless you want to remove the shower from the fitting and hold it while you shower. I think a bit of care and effort when designing the bathrooms would have paid off.|But perhaps the worst thing of all is the breakfast. Considering the main restaurant food is pretty good, you'd expect breakfast to be along similar standards. Sadly, it was barely worthy of a budget up-country 3 star hotel. It was the same fare every day - rice, noodles, a chicken dish, a prawn dish (though once it was salted fish with kale - not bad) and the ubiquitous anaemic ham slices and tasteless frankfurters. Occasionally one of the staff might fry a few eggs and once we spotted some banana cakes. And, of course, the inevitable watermelon and pineapple slices, which always seemed to be about to run out. For the cost of the room, the breakfast is simply not good enough. Please rotate the dishes, add more choices, not just 2, have a manned egg station so guests can at least get an omelette or something, and offer more cakes or pastries. It just feels as though it's done at the cheapest possible cost, which is sad. And change the ice machine. If it isn't bad enough seeing guests struggle once to get any ice to go anywhere except in a glass, you'd think after 100 times of ice shooting off all over the floor someone would have the sense to consider that the choice of dispenser is...
Read moreTranquil beachfront hotel with a good-sized swimming pool. The beach bar serves well, and the beach has soft sand; about 10 meters from the shore, the feet no longer reach the bottom. A few tens of meters from the shore, there is a spot where you can see coral and snorkel among various fish.
Pros and functioning aspects: • Very friendly staff at the reception. • The area is clean. • The pool is not crowded. • A positive aspect is that beach beds are generally not reserved before breakfast. • The bungalows are tidy, and everything inside was in good condition considering the price-quality ratio. • Cold water and toast were available throughout the day.
Areas for improvement: • The hotel advertises free internet, but due to poor connectivity, we had to handle banking matters at the previous hotel (Paradise, 300 meters through the beach). The island seems to generally have weak connections. • The interior of the bungalow was somewhat austere, with a large room containing a bed, desk, and a wardrobe clearly too small for two people. • The breakfast selection did not receive much praise, but it was sufficient for everyone to find something. Sometimes we had to wait as dishes were not refilled promptly. • We found the restaurant a bit dull, although it did not affect the dining experience, of course. • The restaurant may suffer most from young waitstaff whose service attitude was somewhat poor. Even during dinner, a large group sat in the reception booth socializing. Clearly, they could benefit from a manager with the skills to guide the waitstaff in serving.
Overall, a clean beachfront hotel that is well-suited for adults. If you want to go shopping (as there are not many stores on the island), we recommend renting a motorcycle as it's about 1 kilometer to the main street. Prices are reasonable (1 hour 100 baht, a day 350 baht, includes half a tank of fuel). A pleasant and clean hotel in a good location, especially suitable for adults. There isn't much for children to do other...
Read moreEasy to get to from the port. Upon arrival nice greeting and drink- the kids liked it. Room allocated quickly and the person who met us was great.Beach is excellent- sunset is beautiful. Pier great to jump from. Swimming pool warm with seats to relax in. Room was good, air conditioning worked. Ignoring broken toilet seat and broken soap dispenser- the room was fine and close to the beach, restaurant and shop. The room has WiFi and the tv has Netflix access if you have an account and YouTube. Motorbike hire is easy- check for bold tyres. We had a puncture almost immediately. My fault for not checking carefully enough . Service in the restaurant was disappointing- I had to ask each day for coffee. The staff pulled faces when asked as if it was too much trouble. It was awkward asking 2 days in a row. Both staff were equally difficult.I understand it is low season - not so many customers but they need to pay more attention to diners, play some music and have a simple welcoming look. Breakfast was not so good. If you want eggs or omelettes cooked- good luck! Everything seemed too much trouble. We had dinner there on the first night. The service was terrible but the food was nice and well presented. Booking trips or boats out was easy and well organised. It was strange that this was so good when the service in the restaurant in the same place was so poor. I personally would not stay here again, there are nicer hotels along the coast that have better service and facilities around the same price point, I didn’t take many photos here, it felt soulless. I was happy to leave. The island is excellent. I’m glad we explored it but I would never stay at...
