S Tara Grand — Hotel in Surat Thani Province

I have stayed here many times in the past 4-5 years and liked it a lot, indeed a lot. Reason: location close to main roads, good room standard and sleeping quality and - not the least - I have before always got really good food at reasonable prices served when ordering room service. The food quality is really important since this hotel is in the outskirts of the city and no suitable local restaurants are nearby. I have mainly used this hotel for overnight stays due to long car journeys. This is why I again chose to stay here last night. However, we were greatly disappointed when I and my family members received the ordered food via room service. I just wonder: what has happened with the food? It was completely tasteless, even I specifically ordered spicy ”southern style” and dishes were sloppy and too sweet. On the whole, not good at all. ||I do not like to express negativity, so please look at it as a cry for help to achieve positive change, i.e. to the good food standard/quality the hotel always provided before. ||Thus, I kindly urge the management to look into this fatal shortage of cooking quality without delay. Business hotel that checks all the boxes! The hotel is quite large, with probably close to 100 rooms. We initially booked 2 nights and extended by another night as it was really comfortable.

The rooms are large, very well equipped, including small things such as a nightstand and power socket on both sides of the bed and light blocking curtains. The bed was very comfortable, the AC working well and the room décor modern with lime green upholstery (it reminded us of a Holiday Inn express). Parking is plentiful, including an underground covered carpark. There is an elevator to reach the upper floors, a fitness centre, and breakfast is available for a fee. Everything was spotlessly clean in the room and the lobby. We did not see a single ant in our room.

The location is outside of Surat Thani town and only advisable if you have your own transport. Central Mal is within 1km walking distance, but requires crossing a busy highway (overpass is available near the mall)

Walk-in rate is 590B for a standard room. There's a 500B cash deposit at check-in, which is understandable, as there is a fully stocked minibar...

Ok location, terrible management. We arrived early in the morning after a night journey. The bell boy was sleeping on the couch and the receptionist appeared after 10 minutes. We were told morning check-in was possible, but we had to wait an hour. We sat in the lobby with our bell boy friend until they accepted our check-in.

Over our stay the power went out, not once, but twice. The first time for 3 hours in the evening. We went to the nearby shopping center as there was no light in the room. When we asked for a business center to print travel documents they said there was not even a printer available so we had to look elsewhere.

Only upside to the experience: since we had to depart a day early, even though they didn't allow us to transfer the last night to another room, they did allow us to transfer our breakfast vouchers from the last day to the first day when we...
