When I booked my reservation at the Phuthong place, there was four main considerations: 1) location; 2) wi-fi in the rooms; 3) meal service provide; and 4) I booked a suite for extra space and comfort. My trip to Phayao was during Songkran and my primary objective was to take pictures of the city's Songran parade. Upon check-in, I asked the front desk clerk about the date and time for the city's Songkran parade. I was told that it would be the next day starting in the morning at 9:00 am. When I inquired about the wi-fi service, the front desk clerk told me that the 'system' was down but it should be fixed within 3-5 hours. Put our things away in the room and went you to see some of the city. Much to my surprise, the Songkran parade was in progress! I only had one camera with me and was only able to take a few pictures before it was concluded. When I returned to the hotel, a different front desk clerk was on duty. When I asked about why I was given the wrong information on the Songkran parade, I was told that the other clerk 'probably didn't know'! ||||The following day, I went to the front desk to inquire about the wi-fi that was still not working. I was told that there would be no one available to fix the problem for the next three days. I then asked if I could get breakfast served in my room. The clerk told me, no problem. I said I would return to the room, talk with my partner and call with our order. Called to place the order - no answer at the number provided for room service. Called the front desk and was informed that there would be no meal service because the cook didn't come to work! Talked with my partner and we decided we wanted to check out because of the total lack of food and internet service.||||I talked to the front desk clerk, again, and told her of my desire of wanting to check-out and secure a refund for the final two days of my stay. I inquired to the hotel's policy for getting a refund and was told that it shouldn't be a problem but that the accountant was not at work and I would have to wait until the next day. When I asked her to place a call to the accountant or the hotel's manager, the request was refused! Against my better judgement, I decided to wait unit the next day. However, on the following day, I was told that the accountant would not return until the next day. Again, my request to make a phone call was refused. Completely exasperated by the situation, we checked out. I can honestly say, that this was my worst experience in traveling in Thailand for the last...
Read moreThe hotel is in the city centre at a distance of some 1.5kms from Kwan Phayao which is Phayao's main tourist attraction. Therefore, this hotel is best suited to guests with their own wheels.||The hotel is large with 4 different kinds of rooms on lengthy landings either side of the hotel. Ours was a double bedroom for 500 Baht on the second floor facing a number of houses and was therefore quiet. The hotel has no lift and a room away from the staircase a is probably quietest. The hotel has a large car park with an attendant to help you park and unpark.||The room was large and fairly comfortable with beige walls and wooden floors. In terms of furniture, it came with a small table and 2 chairs, a long desktop area with shelves, drawers, a TV with Thai channels, some drinking glasses, a large mirror us another chair as well as a fridge containing 2 bottles of water and a large wardrobe with some plastic clothes hangers and an extra blanket and pillow. The bed itself was enormous and relatively comfortable to sleep on|despite being able to feel some of the springs. |||The bathroom had a bath tub in which is located the shower. Bars of soap and toilet paper are provided, but contains little else apart from a toilet and washbasin. The floors and walls are tiled. We had to request towels as there were none in our room on arrival.|||The WiFi comes with a username and password that change every 24 hours and works well, of a little slowly. There is also aircon in the room although this is not very efficient.|It is a quiet room though all night, but you will be woken up by cockerels at the crack of dawn.||All in all, this is an affordable place to stay that is better value than the guesthouses near the Kwan, but you need your own transport...
Read moreThis hotel was a real find, very centrally located just round the corner from the Gateway and with an excellent restaurant on the corner. The room was huge and spotless with a good bed and pilows. The staff were extremely helpful considering their limited English. There is no breakfast butthey do supply free coffee and biscuits in the lobby till 10am, enough to get you going in the morning. I also had the best massage there, hour and a half for 300 baht and excellent. I can't recommend this hotel enough - oh...
