Phayao Gateway Hotel — Hotel in Wiang Subdistrict

This is one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed here in Thailand. The hotel is very old & very very dirty. In a real need for a total renovation. We canceled our stay early we’re charged a cancellation fee. The pool was out of service which is why we booked there in the first place. The breakfast was awful. Cold food. Cold coffee. Very little selection. Certainly NOT 4 star. Maybe one star at best & the price was a rip off. But the worst was we were sleeping under the aircon which had mould all around it so we had to stay without running the aircon. I used booking.com & as we needed to cancel our stay was a nightmare to explain to the staff that they need to help as the staff wanted me to contact booking.com. If service and friendliness were the only factors then, like most Thai hotels, this one would rate with 5 stars. However, comfort and a good nights sleep are probably the most important part of any stay in a hotel. The issue with this hotel is that the beds are so hard it is like trying to sleep on concrete, very uncomfortable. My one and only night here was totally sleepless.

As for the breakfast, weak English tea made with cream, various dishes kept warm for long periods, orange juice which tasted awful. All in all, poor.

Good things about this hotel: it is in a good location and walking distance to the lake and restaurants. The staff was very friendly and service overall was good. The rooms are nice and big and prices very reasonable.||Bad things: nice big rooms but very dated. Some of the people in our group complained about rooms being extremely noisy. Cleanliness leaves much to be desired especially the bathrooms which can do with a proper cleaning.||Breakfast was quite average. We tried the restaurant for dinner but there was a party going and we couldn't hear each other talk. Food was very average and the restaurant lacked atmosphere.
