This was, without a doubt, our favorite guest house we stayed in Thailand. ||||We booked it on a whim through Agoda, and then started worrying because some of the reviews made it sound like we chose some backwards little guesthouse in the middle of nowhere. Once we arrived, our worries were laid to rest. The guesthouse is on the end of an old fishing pier that's been built up with (delicious) seafood restaurants and shops. Ocean blue is a beautiful traditional style wooden building, open at both ends for airflow, with rooms on both sides of the main hallway. Our room (#9) was small, but lovely and romantic, with two walls of windows that looked out onto the dock, and out to sea. Our fan and windows kept us plenty cool, and we were glad we hadn't wasted money on a/c.||There were not too many other guests at the time we stayed, so our stay was quiet and relaxing, and we often had the whole deck to ourselves. I even got the opportunity to practice yoga in the middle of the main hallway!||||||There are plenty of dining and shopping opportunities in the area, but if you're looking for night-life, Bang Bao might be the wrong part of the island for you. There is also ample snorkeling/diving tours leaving from the area, but the beach is kind of a pain to walk to (though it's a short taxi ride/ scooter trip away).|| ||The bathrooms are admittedly a bit rustic (no hot water, bucket-flush, wet-room shower, sink drains onto floor), but my boyfriend and I aren't fussy, and we didn't find that to be a problem. They do not provide drinking water, but you're free to store your own beverages in their fridge, which more than made up for it to us. Some other reviewers complained about hard beds, and it's true, the bed's are pretty hard, but that seemed pretty standard for many of the guesthouses in Thailand. ||||This is not a luxury accommodation, but for us it could not have been more wonderful. We really adored our stay at Ocean Blue, and strongly recommend them to anyone looking for something a little special and a...
Read moreWe wanted to stay on Bang Bao pier before catching a boat to Ko Mak and found this place as a walk in. We were the only guests as it doesn’t seem possible to book online. We found the friendly owner asleep on the reception floor, which seems to be where he spends his days. The place is a little rough around the edges, rustically faded, and could do with a lick of paint but it’s clean enough. We took room 10 which is at the end so has two sets of windows opening onto the dock and consequently a lovely sea breeze- we didn’t even need the fan. The views are amazing, especially at sunset. Remember though that you’re in a working harbour so expect morning noise from boats getting ready to head off to other islands etc. The room was small but big enough for two people and bags. Cold water shower was okay in the heat. If you like a soft bed though you won’t like it here- probably the hardest mattress I ever slept on but I’d rather have that than a soft lumpy one. We paid 700 THB which was a bargain and we ended up wishing we’d booked to stay for longer. As I said I don’t think there’s a way of booking except turning up. The island was really busy at the time but 9 other rooms were all free when we stayed....
Read moreI Spent 11 days at this wonderful genuine homestay on the fishing-pier at Bang Bao, Koh Chang. The atmosphere is the best possible. Situated on stilts above the water almost as far out as u can come on the living part of the pier. Amazing views of sunrise, sunset and the islands south of Koh Chang. Pat and his wife are just adorable. Nothing is to much for them and they took really good care of me during my stay. Free Coffee and tea during the day. Highly recommended for you who want to experience the genuine Thai hospitality and real way of living on a fishing pier. 5 stars to you both!!!!! Thanks and see...
