When we choose a beach destination, with heat and lots of sun, it is to enjoy the sea, the sand, the sun loungers and the leisure that all this gives us. A chain like Iberostar, with a 5-star, all-inclusive hotel, in addition to the amenities that the resort offers, one of the greatest is being in front of a beautiful beach, with crystal clear, clean water and an infrastructure of parasols and sun loungers to rest. I make this introduction, just to mention that the Iberostar is the Eolia, in Djerba, Tunisia, a 5-star resort. Reopened just over 2 months ago, one of the attractions mentioned on the hotel's website is the location in front of the beautiful fine sand beach (photos attached). That being said, the camels and horses that spent the whole day on the seashore do their business in the open air, on the sand, with the characteristic smell of "dung" and urine (illustrative photo of horse waste ). To top it all off, the algae that accumulates in piles on the edge, mixes it with these discarded materials and some plastic (the latter in less quantity, fortunately), to force us to go around the entrance to the sea when we want to cool off. If we want to enjoy a good swim in the sea, we have to move away from the edge, to enjoy the clean, salty and warm water that is characteristic of this wonderful sea, which only human stupidity and rubbish defiles. Despite this, camels and horses are beautiful and fantastic animals; The essential condition is that the owners organize themselves to collect waste on the daily and constant route they take along the beach. These hotel chains must understand once and for all that a 5-star resort must offer (as mentioned) an immaculate beach service, with clean sand and sea shores, without waste or plastic objects. pollute the sea. The tractors that are "pretending" to clean the beach, pile up and push the dead algae, waste, plastics and all kinds of rubbish to the water's edge, in the hope that the sea will take it all there. inside. In addition to all this, when the tanks on motorbikes and boats fill up, they cause a smell of fuel that spreads across the beach. Unfortunately there are no non-polluting (non-paid) sports - kayaks and caravels, to get a little exercise. The bathrooms behind the beach bar are also not properly clean, nor are the sand area around the sun loungers, nor the tables and chairs (I've never seen them clean this area). Regarding entertainment, as there is no amphitheater or performance area, below the only themed restaurant next to the beach, this is where the party takes place every night. The musical selection is always the same; the main animator loves "trains" and "loves himself". The lack of imagination, good taste and "knowing how to do it" is enormous! I've never seen animation at a resort so bad! Despite this and to compensate, the pianist who plays in the buffet restaurant, the saxophonist and the violinist are fantastic, that's what counts... Drinks at all inclusive are scarce and of dubious quality; the only gin that is included is a poor quality gin; everyone else is paid and the like. However, not everything is bad; the food is great, the staff is very friendly, the room service is very professional and the hotel in general terms (more 4 than 5 stars) is good. If they take care of the beach properly and change the entertainment, it makes all...
Read moreGreat location for families, with a few things to improve
We stayed at this hotel as a family with a small child, and overall, we really enjoyed our time here.
First of all, the location of our room was ideal — spacious, stylish, and very comfortable for staying with a toddler. Right outside our room were the buffet, playground, and pool, which made everything very accessible and easy. The hotel itself is also spacious and beautiful, with a great beach and soft sand. The weather in June was perfect — warm, but not too hot — and we really appreciated that.
The food was generally good, with a wide variety of options and fresh fruit (we loved the watermelon). However, we felt there was a lack of vegetables on offer, which was a bit disappointing. Apart from that, there were plenty of tasty choices, and we enjoyed the overall selection.
The pool was great for children — very family-friendly — and the staff at the restaurant were mostly very polite and attentive. At first, we felt a bit overlooked, but after a while, the service improved a lot.
Now for the things that could be better: When we arrived, the room wasn’t fully prepared — there was only one bathrobe, one Coke, and no coffee, tea, or slippers. There was also no consistently warm water — sometimes it was hot, then suddenly cold, which was inconvenient. Another big issue was the construction site next to the hotel, which really disrupted the peaceful atmosphere in the beginning.
However, we want to say a big thank you to the administrator Karim Dali, who did their best to handle all issues quickly and with care. Thanks to their help, many of the initial problems were resolved, and we really appreciate that.
One thing that bothered us during our stay was the lack of available sunbeds. Guests were occupying them for the whole day, even if they weren’t there, and we often had to wait for free ones. We know this depends on the guests, but also hope the hotel could manage this better.
Lastly, for anyone considering the beauty salon — haircut, manicure, or pedicure — unfortunately, we cannot recommend it. The prices were too high, and the quality of service did not meet our expectations.
In summary, we had a lovely time and really enjoyed the overall experience, especially thanks to the great room location, the beach, and the kind staff. With a few improvements, this hotel could be an even better place...
Read moreDefinitely not 5 stars – loud, dirty and exhausting stay.
We booked this holiday through Blue Style, a Czech travel agency – our first and absolutely last time in Djerba. The hotel advertises itself as 5 stars, but in reality, it is nowhere near that level. At best, it feels like a 3-star property. This was our experience in September 2025.
In summary: this hotel is not a 5-star resort. It is noisy, poorly maintained, with repetitive food (missing even basic fruit), average service, a dirty beach, and staff more focused on tips than on real hospitality. Instead of returning home relaxed, we left more tired than when we arrived. For the price we paid through Blue Style, this was extremely disappointing and not worth it.
We had a sea-view room, but the noise from the animation programs was unbearable. Music, shouting, and a DJ talking loudly into the microphone went on all day long. In the evenings, programs and parties lasted until 2–3 a.m. every night. For a whole week, we were unable to sleep – even earplugs didn’t help. On the last night, it turned into a full techno party, and we finally gave up and requested a room change just to get a few hours of rest before our flight. We were moved to a garden-view room, where the noise was slightly less but still far from peaceful.
Cleanliness and housekeeping were poor. The room was never properly cleaned, bottled water was only supplied on the first day, and then we had to keep asking for it. The bathroom door didn’t close, hot water was unreliable (cold in the mornings, lukewarm midday, unstable in the evenings), and showers were constantly frustrating.
The food was repetitive, bland, and lacked variety. Even basic fresh fruit was missing most of the time. They didn’t provide simple things like dessert spoons or small forks. On the day of departure at 6 a.m., there was no breakfast available at all. Service overall was only average at best, and often felt slow and indifferent.
The beach was another big disappointment. It was dirty, covered with seaweed and animal droppings from camels, horses, cats and dogs used for tourist rides. Guests were constantly disturbed by vendors, and even at the beach the animation team set up speakers, blasted loud music, and the DJ kept yelling into the microphone, ruining any chance of rest. Instead of a peaceful seaside, it felt like a...
