Gümbet Hotel — Hotel in Bodrum

❗️Very Disappointing Stay – Unprofessional Conduct and Poor Hygiene Standards Hotel: Gumbet Hotel – Bodrum, Turkey Stay Dates: July 24 – July 28, 2025 Booking Amount: ~650 EUR (5 nights) Additional Service: VIP Taxi Transfer from airport – 50 EUR 🛑 The experience was unfortunately negative from the beginning: • I had arranged a VIP taxi transfer through the hotel for €50. The vehicle was in very poor condition: • The air conditioning didn’t work, • The TV screen kept falling, • The driver's window separating us was open, and • There was a strong smell of gasoline throughout the ride. 🏨 Hotel Arrival: • At first, the reception staff were polite and acknowledged the transportation issue, saying they would report it and that we were the first to complain. • As compensation, they offered a “better” room – which turned out to be the same category (sea view) I had already booked. 🚿 Room Conditions: • Upon entering, we noticed: • No bathroom amenities (no soap, no shampoo). When I asked, I was told the hotel does not provide them and was advised to buy them myself. • The room was not clean: • My fiancée walked barefoot and her feet became dirty, • We found strands of hair in the bathroom, • The general hygiene was poor (photos attached). 💳 Payment Issues & Staff Behavior: • Although I paid in cash (700 EUR) and was told they would return the change later, I later received an email from Booking.com stating the payment failed. • My fiancée visited reception to: • Clarify the payment issue, • Request the room be cleaned more thoroughly. The hotel owner's reaction was shocking: • He accused us of calling him a thief, • Claimed that Booking made a mistake and we should “just ignore the email”, • Repeatedly said he gave us a “better room”, that it was “worth double”, and that we didn’t know what we were talking about. • When my fiancée asked: “Don’t I have the right to request cleaning or clarification?”, both the hotel owner and his wife began shouting, threatening to kick us out of the hotel. At this point, we no longer felt safe or welcome and decided to leave the hotel early. ⚖️ Summary: This hotel does not meet basic hospitality standards, and the way we were treated was unprofessional and unacceptable. During our stay at this wonderful hotel, we experienced an unparalleled level of friendliness and hospitality, particularly from the owners, Onour and his wife. From the moment we arrived, their warmth and kindness made us feel like part of their family. They went above and beyond to ensure our stay was memorable, suggesting numerous fantastic activities and local attractions.

What truly set them apart was their thoughtful gestures. Knowing we had an early flight at 2 AM, they prepared sandwiches for us, ensuring we had something to eat during our journey. Their dedication was evident as they were available 24/7, always ready to assist with a smile and kind words. The staff's attentiveness extended throughout our entire stay, making us feel comfortable and well-cared for at all times.

On our departure, they surprised us with a lovely plate of fruits and juice as a farewell gift, a gesture that touched us deeply. Even after we left, they continued to show their care by sending a message to check if we had arrived home safely. Such attention to detail and genuine concern for their guests is rare and truly commendable.

The rooms were not only comfortable but also offered stunning views that added to the overall charm of our stay. The pricing was excellent, providing great value for the level of service and comfort we received. The hotel's atmosphere was always inviting, and we genuinely felt at home.

DO NOT stay here under any circumstances! The hotel is absolutely awful. We arrived here 3 days ago and were horrified by the place. The reception is an unwelcoming first impression and the staff were unhelpful & didn't speak much english. We were shown to our room which was downstairs and by a grassy area at the front of the hotel. The first thing about the room was the awful smell of damp, the room was tiny with two twin beds and hardly any room to move around. It was dark, dingy with cracks on the wall and it looked & felt like a prison cell. The man on reception said that this was an economy room but to be quite honest I'd rather sleep outside than risk getting some sort of infection or illness by staying and eating here. The communal areas and bar were not appealing and the whole hotel looked nothing like the photographs we had seen on the internet. I immediately got onto my hotel provider to get them to give us an alternative hotel. Within the hour we were in a taxi to a proper 4 star hotel and our holiday could finally begin. The guy at reception had the audacity to get me to write down why I was disatisfied with the property when I said I was leaving and even questioned me when I said it was dirty.
