Hoima Buffalo Hotel (HB) has generally been a fair and decent place to stay over the years, maintaining basic standards of service and comfort. However, my recent experiences have been quite disappointing, especially with the quality of service at the restaurant.
The biggest issue lies with the attitude and professionalism of the waitresses. They often appear disinterested and unmotivated, as if serving guests is a burden. Orders are taken carelessly, and in several instances, I’ve been served meals different from what I actually ordered. When you raise a concern, the response is often defensive and dismissive, which completely undermines the idea of hospitality.
The food quality has also declined. I used to enjoy their wet fish—it was one of the best in Hoima—but lately, the standards have dropped. Meals are often poorly prepared, served cold, or simply reheated leftovers. Even basic staples like posho come cold, and you have to ask for them to be warmed. On one occasion, I was billed for chips instead of posho, and when I asked for clarification, I was told rather rudely that “posho is not in the system.” There was no apology or attempt to explain this earlier—just a dismissive response.
These issues point to a serious gap in staff training and supervision. The management needs to urgently invest in improving customer care and restaurant service standards. The waitresses, in particular, could greatly benefit from basic hospitality training to restore the professionalism that HB was once known for.
Hoima Buffalo Hotel still has potential—it’s a well-located establishment with decent facilities—but unless management addresses these service issues, loyal customers may start looking elsewhere. I truly hope management can restore the standards that once made HB a reliable...

Read moreIt's a nice place to stay in if you get a room on the main block. They have good amenities as well. The swimming pool, gym, steam & sauna are worth trying. I enjoyed the breakfast. The sausages and meat balls tasted farm fresh and well done, was really delicious. I like it that there's at least one different option on a daily unlike some places I have been to with the same breakfast menu Monday to Sunday.
The customer service still needs more work.
Also to avoid inconvenience/ getting the rooms in annex, it's best to make a reservation.
I felt that the annex side did not necessarily give value for money as the rooms are not air conditioned but have...
