Avoid - very rude staff who don’t have any time for you and refuse to assist in any way whatsoever - very uncaring and don’t care about your needs. I booked a double twin bed room and upon approval and after paying and reaching my room I had realised that I had been given 2 single beds instead of 2 twin beds as I had booked. I thought it’d be nothing major and I’ll go speak to the receptionist about it, it could be a genuine human error - upon arrival I respectfully told the receptionist (Sam) about the issue and how I had been given the incorrect room, and how I have back issues and wouldn’t be able to sleep on the tiny single bed, rather than showing empathy and being helpful and apologising for the mistake, she just gave me the cold shoulder, didn’t even want to listen to what i had to say, her exact words were, “it clearly states 2 single beds when you booked, it’s your problem you should have read it before booking we can’t do anything about it” and left it at that, she didn’t give me chance to explain and to avoid being rude back because I was fuming I respectfully redacted myself from the situation and contacted my booking agent to discuss the issue of which I am still awaiting a response. I have also added the screenshot of the booking where it clearly states 2 twin beds - maybe this could be a little lesson for Sam where she learns customers always come first and maybe next time she should have the decency to listen to the customer before making assumptions, I strongly suggest she is re-trained on her position and taught the value of customers. I will not be staying at companile ever again. I have stayed many times in the past and have had 0 issues but this time it was something out of a nightmare.

Ok to stay in. Probably more of a contractors hotel. Used the shower which is a walk in one. Turned it on after pointing the adjustable shower head towards the wall. Brushed my teeth and turned around to find that the adjustable shower head had also decided to turn around and point itself at the shower room flower and water was all over the place. Had to lower the shower head as it kept wanting to point itself out the shower entrance. Had to mop the water up with the towel afterwards The food was good. Had fish and chips. Chips were the best I've had in a while but bizarrely the mushy peas were so watery they were more like pea soup. Unfortunately it went a bit downwards after that. Tea making facilities are minimal. The TV was fairly unusable as it clearly hadn't been retuned in ages and all the channels were wrong or none existent. The settings button was either faulty or disabled so I couldn't retune it either. I then got a room call from reception to find that the phone in my room isn't working as the reception couldn't hear me but I could hear her? Apparently I had to come and pay for the restaurant food even though I had been asked my room number? Apparently there is a bit of a trust issue as you can only do this if it's been 'agreed with the company' (not sure if they meant their company or the one I work for, and didn't really care enough to ask by this stage). I have stayed in many, many places for work over the years, and that is the FIRST time I couldn't put the food on the room bill. The staff were friendly and polite, so no complaints about them whatsoever.

I had a really upsetting experience here. I travelled to Birmingham for work and as I got to the hotel, it looked lovely. However when I got to my room, I wished I booked a different hotel. The bedsheets smelt like they were used and had not been washed, found hair on a pillow and also many strands of hair were visible under the mattress sheet. The bathroom smelt foul and continued to smell horrible constantly. The whole room and bed just didn’t feel clean and I couldn’t believe I had to stay here as other close hotels were fully booked, it was so upsetting I cried. On my last day staying here, I was laying in bed and noticed something moving in my peripheral vision. I looked and it was a bedbug. This was my last straw, I informed reception and Sam was helpful. She was empathetic and moved me to another room however I didn’t feel comfortable enough staying here for another night and checked out early. Definitely will not be staying at this hotel again. Edit: The day I found the bedbug and checked out early, I was told I would be contacted by the management team so they could investigate this further, it’s been almost a week since I checked out and I haven’t heard anything.

Once in the room, we found that the tv remote did not work. I took the remote to the reception and asked if there were any spare batteries or a different remote that we could use. The girl behind the counter changed the batteries but the remote still does not work at all. We managed to get the tv working by using the button on the back of the tv.

When the tv screen is on, it is broken; there is a line going down the screen, impacting the image.

There are no pillow cases on two of the pillows, so there is no cleanliness barrier between us and anybody else who has stayed here before / will stay here after.

There is a stain on the duvet, indicating they have either not been washed at all or not been replaced after cleaning has failed to lift the mark.

The plug socket to the right hand side of the bed does not work, there must be something stuck inside meaning you can not put a plug in it. This meant we were only able to charge one of our phones overnight.

There is a door between us and the room next door and it is UNLOCKED. I could hear people in the room next door and knowing our connecting door was unlocked I can only assume theirs was too. Had we assumed this door was to a closet or just even assumed it was already locked anybody could have walked into our room at any point.

When scanning the QR code to see the menu, it is labelled as a ‘sample menu’. I know at some places this means they are only samples of the food so wanted to clarify, also it says they are subject to change food items. I called the hotel to ask how we could view the menu and the girl said they don’t have one. I said I scanned the QR code to look online at the menu and it says ‘sample menu’ and she just said again that they don’t have an online menu.

We realised very quickly that we did not want to be here but with it being late we didn’t have time to find somewhere else to go for that night so we stayed. We have now left to go home as we would not stay another night. I tried to find an email to request a refund but there is none.

It’s a disappointment as the hotel reception / bar area is absolutely lovely but the rooms let it down. I did not see before booking but after looking on google I can see why it is only rated as a...
