Aloft is a fairly new but different addition in to hotels In Birmingham. It’s simple yet very stylish and has a bit of a edge to it. From the minute I entered the hotel had a warm and welcoming feeling. The deco in the lobby was very chic. Checking in was a easy quick and process. After checking in when I first tried to enter my room the door would not open so I had to call them with my mobile and request assistance. A member of staff came very quickly and sorted the problem. They informed me that because the doors are fairly new, they need to pushed to close in order to open. I did have trouble every time I wanted to enter my room. The room are exactly how they look in the pictures; very stylish, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was decent, quiet a bit of variety, food properly covered. The restaurant is beautiful. Love the deco & ambiance. Customer service is great at the face of it as the staff are very welcoming, professional and polite but when it comes guest experience with enquires and request no one gets back to you. After making a booking online I called to confirm my reservation and I enquired about late checkout. I was informed, the cost of late checkout would be £5 per hour until 4 pm, then £10 per hour until 6 pm. I spoke at least 3 staff over the my two night stay who said they would get back to me but I never received a response. I called on the morning of the stay spoke to a lady about late checkout till 4 but was told fully booked and she will look into it and get back to me. She not call back. At the time of checking, I again requested the late checkout, one of the ladies at the reception told me the same thing fully booked but will investigate about my query and get back to me about the morning call. Finally spoke to Lucy who sorted out the late checkout but at first said fully booked but when I pointed out there was availability online. I thought she finally sorted it but when checking out the reception the staff had no clue that I was still in the room till 4 pm and had not checked out at the checkout time as they were not informed about my late check out. This did not create any inconvenience to me but it was slightly alarming that the staff are very unaware certain situations and lack communication between with colleagues and customers. There is No free Parking at the hotel. It would have been a five star stay if my experience with the query I made was dealt properly. Overall it was a decent stay and I would recommend...
Read moreWhere do I start, background - we booked through Secret Escapes.
Everything seemed amazing when we walked through the lobby, the check in was great, no complaints.
Our room had a lovely, massive TV. However, we were given an accessibility room which was not what we booked which meant our bathroom was a wet room, with no bathtub to have the soak we had planned.
However, the most NOISEST hotels I've ever stayed in. At 1am, my husband hears a strange noise, we both wake up, put the lights on. My husband went to check what the issue was through our peep hole and saw a drunk woman trying to gain access to our room, thudding our door. He decided to see if the woman was ok out of natural care for another human being, when he opened the door to tell her she had the wrong room, she pushed her way into our room. My husband had to push her back out (not what we intended) as she became very aggressive. She then proceeded to bang our door down with all her force for twenty minutes. The whole episode lasted about 45 minutes.
I tried calling reception several times for security, however there was no answer. I finally managed to get through with no help from their own phone within the room (they don't say which number to call for reception). Finally security managed to get through, all night we couldn't sleep due to the violent ordeal we went through. I was already suffering from PTSD from another traumatic event to which this added to. Not what we needed when my husband was trying to give me a relaxing stay away.
Following all of this at 4am a bunch of lads walk into the room next door making an inexcusable amount of noise.
Advice: please ensure all guests that are under the influence of alcohol and out of their heads are escorted to their rooms to ensure the safety of other guests. Please make sure each room has a clear call description to speak to reception when necessary. Please ensure your security is present when needed (especially on big weekends like the one we experienced across Halloween) because we were woken by an intruder trying to access our own...
