Night one of three... Posting at 3:44am. Been up for an hour as the room is so unbearably hot. We're in a family room (4 of us). Just one fan, pointed at kids to help them sleep. No air conditioning. To be clear day time high was about 23°C today so this is not a heatwave. God knows what this would've been like in the 30°C last week. Aside from the lack of actual air con, the problem is you can't let built up warmth in the room get out. The windows don't open enough to let out the heat, and inexplicably they've opted for a design where the opening window is the lower part of the window so hot air cannot escape from the top of the room... how this helps anyone ever I have no idea. Have requested to move, but apparently they are full so unless they can arrange a move based during the checkout and checkin timing (which would may help) we may need to cut our holiday short. Night two of three... (posting on morning of day three) the manager sorted a move to a room downstairs during the day which was cooler than the sauna we had on the first floor. We had to remove all our bags from the room during the day so they could clean it for the next guests. It wasn't as sunny on Tuesday afternoon, and that may have influenced how comfortable this new room was, however a good night's sleep was had by all - thank you! Considering the location of this Premier Inn, it should surely be worth the investment in air con for summer holiday visitors. We use Premier Inn as we travel around as it is good value and comfy generally... plus you know what you are getting and can rely on a standard being provided. Obviously they will be full every summer regardless of air con or not, so that's maybe why they haven't bothered so far. They could do simple/cheap alternatives to improve ventilation (as the childsafe windows are poor for ventilation due to amount they open and also because the top part of the window doesn't open keeping hot air in the top of the room); adding air vents high up in exterior walls into the room to open/close as appropriate to allow hot air to escape, reflective film on the windows themselves to reflect the heat of the sun away (pilkington k glass)... just some ideas to help...
Read moreAs others have pointed out this business is going downhill fast. A lower standard of service is offered most normally with no staff on reception and only self-service check-in. This prevents the personalised service with advice (and the option to sell add-ons!) and leaves a sour taste in the mouth after paying top dollar for essentially an unmanned motel. The sites are increasingly asking for paid parking which is highway robbery - these are often in secondary sites with little option but to use a car. I have stopped at Norwich Broadland several times and was astonished today to find no machine to put in my registration number for the car park. Needless to say nobody was on reception so it was left to a guest to point out a pay machine - that’s another £7 they have ripped me off without adequate warning. In summary the directors are driving this business in to the ground - reduced service - increased prices - enforced add-one without appropriate notice. My advice is remember you live by your customers’ good grace to stay with you - and I won’t be after my next booking is completed as you do not deserve customers. P.s room 227 Broadlands broken robe hook broken worktop from bad fitting paint on inside of bathroom door, paint or toothpaste on outside of same, mould in worktop corners, gaps in skirting in bathroom with peeling paint. And you expect people to come back when you add insult by ripping us off with new add-on parking charges? EDIT went down for breakfast to be confronted by “hash browns” like rocks and fried eggs like rubber. Advised the guy there I would be back in a few minutes after cereal and would appreciate some fresh items put out. HE LAUGHED AT ME. Went back and nothing done - complained to the woman running the show “ but they are fresh” so I picked up a hash brown and dropped it on a plate (honestly thought the plate would crack). She said; “well they were only refreshed a half hour ago so they are fresh”. SHE TURNED AND WALKED AWAY the rudest most unhelpful ignorant hotel staff I have met in over 35...
Read moreThis review is not based on the level of customer service that was provided by the staff because they were brilliant in understanding our concerns.
That’s where the positive review ends. The building to start with is looking very tired and worn, the carpets are stained and the furniture is not modern and there are no plug sockets by your bed. Within the first minute of stepping through the door our power had tripped and we had to ask reception to resolve this. Once resolved we were greeted with what only can be described as a sweat box. I have stayed in many premier inns and I have never had an issue with room temperature. I would suggest the heat experienced is borderline unsafe. We had food and chocolate from a local shop that literally melted inside the room. The window ventilation is so bad that you can see the condensation on the windows. If the UK was experiencing a heat wave I would be more forgiving but it was 21 degrees during the day and 12 degrees at night. Yet the room temperature would not drop below 28. It was the most uncomfortable premier inns nights sleep I’ve ever had. Their answer to this on the second night was a fan.. which did absolutely nothing other than blow hot air and keep you up at night. Premier Inn have a guaranteed good nights sleep and exclude any claims against room temperatures. They refused to provide a refund even though it was not hot outside, but only inside. I found myself holding the door open to try and shift some heat in to the corridor. The lack of ventilation in this building is dangerous. This is unacceptable and I shall be avoiding premier inns going forward for both pleasure and business. The sad thing is, the staff admitted and acknowledged that the rooms have a temperature issue because they get complaints all the time but they have no ability to make changes. To top it off, they now charge you to park every 24 hours in a car park that was probably only ever 30% full at all times. Avoid this premier inn at all costs, unless you plan for a...
