Have stayed at this hotel multiple times and has previously always been a pleasant stay. Not so this time.. We were delayed checking in by nearly 45 minutes due to the housekeeping team running behind. As an Area Manager of a cleaning company who oversees housekeeping teams I had no issue with this as these things happen. However, when finally accessing the rooms (we had 2 adjoining rooms, 110-112 on friday 14th-sunday 15th April) the first overall impression was that there was a musty smell and a room which felt tired and overdue a refresh.
Settling in, the first thing I noticed was black mould around the window frames which was actively growing and not just residual staining. This was beside the sofa bed in which our 2 year old was sleeping on.
There was also thick dust in the extraction vent, the limescale on the kettle spout was horrendous, and the pillows were badly stained, and the bed linen also had some visible red marks which looked like lip stick. The whole room just felt unclean.
The public areas also weren't that great. Whilst sat waiting in the restaurant to access the rooms it appeared that the restaurant floor hadn't even been swept since the breakfast/lunch service. There was food debris all over the floor and was really noticeable. The guest toilets were also quite dirty, with toilet paper strewn all over the floor alongside dubious puddles. The tap in the toilets was grim! I was almost reluctant to touch it.
The only positives i could muster for our stay was the young lady on reception who checked us in, as she kept us updated with what was going on and was very apologetic and also both ladies who were waitering on the evening service and the next mornings breakfast service. All 3 memebers of staff were very friendly and welcoming.
Overall it was a very disappointing 2 night stay and well below the usual standards we have experienced in this hotel previously. Maybe it is time to give somewhere else a try during our next visit. Such a shame, as it used to be one of our favourite Premer Inns to stay at when visiting...
Read moreConveniently close to the nearby A30 Honiton Bypass road, with a BP petrol station next door, and an Aldi across the road. Walking distance to town - about 15 minutes, some of which is unlit as the local council have many street lights out. It was cold and windy when we visited.
The hotel is nice enough - standard Premier Inn - clean, well maintained, usable room.
Under-staffed, though, hence fewer stars for this review. I've stayed at many Premier Inns around the UK and this was a bit of a shock, really. Two afternoon / evening staff working and not paying attention to reception or guests. We checked in and asked about evening meals in the restaurant. Nothing was offered as no chef was on duty, and we asked if they were quiet and they said yes, so we had the pleasure of a walk to town for food - please see separate review.
Next morning, there was breakfast available; good job as we had paid in advance for it. Unlimited Continental and full English options. Had to order fresh fried eggs as the two out had been there a long time and were solid rubber. There was not an unlimited supply of food, which was a disappointment in case I wanted 4 sausages, there were only 2. We each had enough for the journey so were happy. I do like the Premier Inn coffee machines - 2 x double espresso and a Latte in eh same cup is perfect for me. Strong winds and a powerful aroma of silage outside next day - you're in the...
Read moreArrived late after booking late (3 hours notice) booked a quad room. On arrival there was no one at reception but managed the automated checkin which was ok and pretty seamless once we had found our booking ref.
When we got into the room it had been made up as a double not a quad (this was 9pm) had to had back down to reception, after waiting 15mins and pressing the button to summon someone a number of times eventually a person appeared, explained the problem and was asked to wait in the bar while they resolved it. 10:10pm, we gave up and went back to the room to find it complete (no one spoke to us to explain or apologize).
Room was fine, a little cramped with the four beds but this was to be expected, the bathroom was clean but dated. Over night it was very hot and hard to sleep.
Following morning had a shower but then realized we only had one set of towels, no massive issue as this was an overnight stop to somewhere else so we used our own.
Breakfast was downstairs in the bar, full allergy menu was provided and a good number of GF options. It was nothing to shout about but it was hot and filling.
All in all it was a rubbish stay, last of attention from staff and a poor night's sleep. I was going to speak to a staff member in the morning but again they were nowhere...
