The week just gone I travelled down with my Dundee & stayed at your hotel for a special family trip. It takes quite a lot for me to write a dissatisfactory review, but after a few days of contemplation for what happened regarding my room I feel I need to let other paying customers know the experience I had.
I was put in room 132 originally on the Thursday evening. Upon entering my room I was upset with the level of hygiene and cleanliness of the room , particularly the bathroom where there were multiple dead flies/bugs covering the floor. I did mention this to reception but cleaned the majority of these up myself. After waking up in the middle of the night after a poor night sleep I awoke to a wasp infested bathroom! I did report this to reception but they did not have a spare room or facilities to help me this night so I was forced to deal with them myself and spent the rest of the early hours of the morning catching over 8 wasps which I can only presume had nested somewhere within the bathroom/ walls. The next day after bringing this up with reception following my little to no sleep they did offer me a room just two doors down 134 for the following 2 nights and said that they would get someone in to spray the room which was infested.
I was horrified to find the same situation on a lesser scale in my new room where I spent the night wasp catching once more! What upset me most was that it seemed to me they had moved more paying customers into the room I had been evacuated from just less than 24 hours post my complaint. This ordeal lead to 2 nights of very poor sleep and stress which took a toll on the whole trip for myself and affected my family also. I would hate for a young child or someone to be stung who would have had a severe reaction due to the negligence of the hotel.
A trip to a hotel is supposed to be an enjoyable one , I can say that this trip was quite a nightmare for me. I hope the hotel sees this and does try to rectify for future...
Read moreA lovely hotel in it's own grounds off a quiet residential street in Broughty Ferry. Plenty of free parking, but park under trees at your own risk - birds roosting overnight leave copious "gifts"! There's a cosy & comfortable lounge bar and a spacious dining room. The main building is from the 19th/early 20th century and retains many attractive original features, such as ornate plaster cornices and decorated ceilings. Large windows allow plenty of daylight. Tasteful wood panelling & marble features give an elegant, traditional feel. Some rooms are in wings not served by lifts, but these are identified at the time of booking. The staff I encountered were friendly & helpful and smartly turned-out. I had a "small double" room which was spacious with adequate wardrobe space and an en-suite bathroom with shower cubicle. The room was bright & airy, thanks to a large window. The heating was very efficient and I had to turn it off. Comfortable bed with a good duvet & plump pillows. Large wall mounted TV; no extra charge for the remote control. Bedside cabinets & individual lighting. Several free electric sockets, but no USB points. Hairdryer, iron, ironing board, fan all provided. Free wi-fi with no lengthy sign-up or access palaver. A breakfast buffet with a good range of hot & cold items, and I can confirm that the hot items were hot & fresh - not something you can always rely on at a buffet! Modern coffee machines. Bright, airy & spacious dining room. Broughty Ferry is is close enough to Dundee for this to be convenient, although BF itself has a good range of shops, bars & restaurants. There is a railway station and good road connections. The area is noted for its links golf courses and St Andrews is a short drive away. I enjoyed my short stay and would definitely...
Read moreI'm afraid the hotel has two members of staff who are ignorant. I think it probably started on the first morning when I went down to breakfast. I was shown to two tables in the middle of the room by Ian. I asked to be placed at a different table as I could see that many other tables were free. He said he did not know which tables were available and went to ask another member of staff which other tables I could be placed at. Jac came into the room and pointed to a table on the raised part of the room. I could see from Ian's face that he was not happy I had questioned him about my table choice. From that moment forward whenever he came into the same room as me he would turn his head away so that he did not have to speak to me. Jac was even worse. The next morning I arrived at breakfast and waited at the sign that says wait here to be seated. As I waited Jac came into the breakfast area and totally ignored me. Before she left the room I chased after her and said I've come for breakfast. She said sit down then. I said the sign says wait here to be seated. She asked me to take a seat and began to leave the room. I chased after her again and said do you not want to know my name so you can cross me off your list. She said what’s your name and then crossed me off the guest list. This entire conversation took place without her once looking at my face. She spoke down to the floor or at the wall next to me. Her attitude was disgusting. I don’t expect extra special treatment when I go to a hotel but I do expect hotel staff to be pleasant. She needs to be reminded that she is in the hospitality trade and she should at least make guests feel welcome to the hotel. After all its guests that...
