Absolutely dreadful. If you are in the area, find somewhere else to sleep. This isn't the one. Had the unfortunate pleasure of staying here in mid 2020. Would honestly rate it 0/5 if I could. Me and my partner felt very uncomfortable the whole time. Despite us being the only guests, the host gave us the room next to hers making us feel quite stifled. The whole house smelled like old urine and mold, as did the host. Upon entry, the first thing we noticed was how dusty and dirty it was inside. Within the room, the amenities were out of date and the fridge smelled weird. The bedding was old and I doubt it had been prop cleaned before our stay. For reference, the picture of the instant coffee with the expiry date of 05/2020, was in the room during our stay in July. The other post of instant coffee had congealed together so I have no clue how old it was, but I'm guessing more than a few months past it's best. Needless to say, we decided to prepare our own food. In the bathroom, there was hair ON the soap before we even had a chance to shower. We were asked endless amounts of personal questions that were irrelevant to our stay. Trying to leave during th day without alerting the host to our absence was like an awful game of hide and seek as we knew if she heard us, we'd be bombarded with questions of where we're going and with whom. We decided to leave a day early because the night before, the host knocked on our locked bedroom door at MIDNIGHT. There was no fire alarm or cause to disturb us but 2 loud clear knocks on the door made is freeze and basically be as quite as we could for fear of another knock coming. Absolutely ridiculous. I was outraged. I've stayed in a few places over the years but this was the worst. I've never in my life felt that uncomfortable in any accommodation before, it was akin to sleeping in the house of the witch from hansel and gretel (without the sweets). The best part of our stay? Leaving. Such a wave of relief as we left the house. Please please consider staying anywhere else, this place of absolutely abysmal. I don't usually leave reviews but I had to say something about the shocking state of this awful BnB.

I loved my stay at Carlton Seamill. Bedroom, bathroom, and dining room were comfortable and clean. What struck me was their classic and opulent styling. As we learned from the hostess, much of the furniture and crockery were in the family for a long time already. Being from the IKEA generation, experiencing such an (I presume) authentically British design was a great experience. The atmosphere was quite homely. We've had extensive chats with our courteous hostess as well as fellow patrons, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Guests that prefer to keep to themselves might prefer a less intimate setting. However, those that would like to enrich their stay by learning about the local culture and scenery would do well to spend a night here!

We recently stayed at the Carlton Seamill B&B. Avril, the owner was very friendly and made us feel very welcome in her home. Our conversations were very interesting. The house is very old and full of character. It’s like stepping back in time. The view from the bedroom is superb. We visited Portencross castle, Largs and Wemyss Bay. We really enjoyed our weekend and would love to visit again.

Having recently stayed at the Carlton Seamill B&B to attend a wedding, I got nervous having read some of the reviews on here after I had booked. Having prepared for the worst as the reviews would lead you to believe, the experience I had was the exact opposite!||Upon arrival, Avril welcomed us in and directed us to our room and showed us where the shared bathroom was. She was bright, cheery and it was a warm welcome. We dropped off our bags and went for a wander along the beachfront outside. ||The bed was a little on the firm side but it didn't make the stay unpleasant. We stayed in the main bedroom which has an incredible view across to the Isle of Arran. ||Saturday morning, we were greeted by Avril for breakfast. My partner is vegetarian and was well catered for at breakfast which was an easy and pleasant experience. ||We attended the wedding, had a front door key to come back in late and hit the hay. ||Sunday morning, we once again had a nice breakfast and a stroll on the beach and were allowed a late checkout by Avril so we weren't rushing about in the morning. ||Overall, it was a very pleasant stay and Avril is a wonderful host. She has a lot of passion for running the B&B and I think reading the reviews, some people forget this is a B&B and not a hotel or rented apartment.||The place is a bit of a time warp in terms of decor but that gives it a unique charm and character, something that is really missing these days. ||Avril as a host is warm, welcoming and chatty. She's not instrusive as people make out, she's just curious and looks to build rapport with her guests.||Honestly, I would ignore the one and two star reviews. Book yourself in for something a bit different and enjoy it...

My girlfriend and I booked this accommodation for two nights for a friend's wedding in the hydro next door. On first entry we met the owner Avril sitting at the door. She had informed us that she had limited mobility and did not inform us what room we had booked. I carried the suitcase upstairs and had to come back down to ask what room it was.||The room itself had a musty, damp smell. Window sills were rotting away. Heater on in the corner that smelled like something was burning which is unsafe. The bathroom across the hall had dead flys in the bathtub and a lyno floor that has never been changed (probably since the 40's). ||We quickly realized that there was no hope we were staying the night. The whole place was unhygienic, and the smell still haunts me to this day.||Would not recommend this to anyone and should avoid at all costs. Please save your money because we didn't even check in and couldn't get a refund even asking politely.||We ended up staying in a nearby town instead but the whole experience had been shocking and extremely disgusting. This accommodation should not even be allowed to be rented as it is not clean. The only great thing about it is the location and the view but that's all that it has to offer. Avril was kind to us but at this rate she should know better and fix her place if she is renting it out to people for that price. We feel bad as it is her livelihood but she is just scamming people at this point if people continue to have the same experiences and she is not doing anything about it.||Please don't bother staying with them unless you are super, super stuck for an...
