I booked Dock Cottage for three nights in July and had a wonderful time at this cosy cottage by the sea with my children and the family dog.
Recently decorated, the living room is relaxing and comfortable with throws for cooler weather and a foot stool to rest those weary legs after marching up and down the hill! There's also the added bonus of a round window, a log burner, a useful guide, leaflets and maps for help acquainting yourself with what the local area has to offer. I was also grateful of the extra loo on this floor.
The main bedroom is a good size and the bed was so comfortable - I slept so well! The owners have thoughtfully provided a cover for the quirky round window if you're after a lie in. Waking up to a sea view and the sound of the waves was an absolute boon. The ensuite shower was great but the toilet rather cramped for me at 5' 9" so I used the downstairs one for the duration of the stay.
My boys were delighted with the upstairs twin room and the sea themed decor is just lovely. They both slept really well and they enjoyed being at the top of house, with a sea view.
On the ground floor the kitchen opens out onto the street, opposite a sweet shop, and the tiled floor is practical for sandy shoes and wet paws. We found the kitchen to be very well appointed with everything needed for cooking family meals and also a decent sized fridge freezer.
On the first day, it was a little cooler in the evening and we got caught in the rain. The heating kicked in quickly and the control panel was simple to use which was greatly appreciated. There's a log burner with logs and kindling for those staying in the colder months which would be lovely and cosy, but ours was a summer stay.
Spread across 4 floors, the stairs are steep and ceilings are low so you will certainly get your steps in! We didn't mind this at all as the place was so comfortable, but for less mobile people this might be an issue. It's right at the bottom of the hill and although we could have popped the car down to unload stuff, we chose to park in the allotted space and walk down.
All in all, we loved our stay and would love to return another time. Teddy enjoyed his seaside walks and there's definitely more to do to warrant another visit. There are so many things to do right on the doorstep and it's a friendly place to stay with...
Read moreI have stayed many times at Dock Cottage and, prior to that, in many other cottages in the Bay, so I feel well-qualified to make comparisons. I have continued to stay at Dock Cottage because I love it - the location, the views from every room, the specialness of the place are unparalleled in Robin Hoods Bay (already a very special place). The recent changes have all been sympathetic to the location with redecoration that suits the cottage and enhances the stay. The additional toilet and new shower to replace the bath are both ingenious in the small bathroom and welcome. The recent addition of information leaflets, books and board games is great and well appreciated. As I’ve got older here (I’ve been coming to the Bay for over 60 years!) I’ve found it brilliant to be able to go straight from the cottage to the beach without having to climb the hill, saving my energy for long cliff and beach walks! The kitchen is perfect for my daughter who loves cooking, and the fish shop and Bay Hotel, Smugglers and Bramblewick are just a few steps away if you want to eat out. But having said that, the thick walls of the cottage ensure a peaceful stay and even storms at the Bay can’t disturb you! So in just a few words I’d recommend anyone to stay there for a wonderful experience of Robin Hoods Bay. If you understand the beauty of the Bay you’ll get that this is the best...

Fabulous location and views of the sea and beach down the jetty. Was nice to get cosy in front of the log/coal burner after long walks on the beach. The newly fitted shower was so good. We slept like logs the mattress on the double bed was wonderful! Good selection of pots and pans etc for anyone who likes to cook as we do. Fabulous location for The Bay Hotel and Brambles Bistro which does amazing steak and burgers. We love Robin hoods bay and will definitely stay at dock...
