Came in just for tea and cake, sat down as everywhere is supposed to be table service and we weren't acknowledged at all. Went up to the counter, both staff on were rude and forgot what we ordered (literally two teas, two scones and an extra drink...) About twenty minutes went by before we even received the teas and we had to ask after another ten minutes where the scones were. All the while customers were coming in and were being turned away because neither staff member cleaned the two tables that had been left dirty. Could hear constant negative comments from the staff and a lot of frustrated sighing. Customers were left queuing outside for takeaway coffees for around twenty minutes and I didn't hear a single apology from the staff for the wait. There's a lovely cafe next door. One that doesn't have a passive aggressive owner who enjoys listening to the football just about as much as indirectly berating his customers for having a wet dog on his stone floor (not us, the friendly couple on the next table who couldn't have been more friendly). If you like a cafe where the owner sighs and rolls their eyes when you ask what the cakes are, patronises his young staff and makes the atmosphere really tense - then this is the place for you. Sat down. Asked if they had any non dairy milk. No. Never mind. Asked at 12.30 if they did the breakfast menu still. No. Never mind. Went to the toilet - the door doesn't close (I saw other visitors intruded on while using the toilet). Had a very below average scone. Service was, to put it kindly, brusque. It was unsettling to hear crockery being slammed around in a way I have never heard.
