The first time me and my partner came here for valentines day earlier this year it was amazing. The food was delicious, service quick and friendly, and a super cozy atmosphere. We loved it so much we decided to book a second time in July for my partners birthday. This time wasn't the same experience at all though. When we tried to book a week in advance the time we wanted was full, fair enough, can't control that so we agreed to changing the time. We were informed we would have 90 mins to dine instead of the 120 they allow you during the evening as it was busy, we understand and agreed to this as we also work in hospitality and know things can be busy at times. I will point out that this was however, on a Wednesday and not during a holiday season.
When we arrived, the place was packed, which again would have been fine had we not been shoved in a small side room behind a door, with such little room that in order to get to my seat my legs had to squeeze between our table and the poor table next to us. My bum was basically over their table for a second, which was not only super embarrassing for me but I imagine wasn't a great experience for them either. My partners chair was so close to the steps leading up to the side room that had he moved back slightly at all he would've fallen back.
The service was nowhere near as good either, rather than the friendly welcome we got last time, we were rushed to our table and reminded we only had 90mins. A reminder is fine, but why did it have to be the first thing you said to us? We were watched by servers throughout the whole experience, clearly wanting us to hurry up dispite the fact we weren't taking any longer then was requested. This made us feel incredibly uncomfortable as we didn't feel welcome at all. I personally already struggle eating out in public, let alone with staff staring at and rushing us. We were also given the bill immediately after we'd finished as if to say, "hurry up and leave already", though we still had 10 minutes before they supposedly expected us to leave.
The final issue was the food, we asked for rare but it came blue. We would've sent it back and asked for it to be done a tad longer but due to the reason stated above, we didnt feel like they had the time for us, so we just ate it anyway. Which is a shame considering we paid so much for this experience.
We know bad days can happen, ecpecially in hospitality, but the whole experience from booking to leaving the restaurant was just terrible. Overall, we left feeling very rushed and disappointed, especially since we had such a good experience last time. It put a really damp mood on a day that should've just been fun...

During my hike from Whitby to Robin Hood's Bay along the picturesque Cleveland Way, I stumbled upon Brambles Bistro—and what a serendipitous find it was! After a 7-mile trek through rain-soaked paths, I was in need of a warm, welcoming place to rest and refuel, and Brambles Bistro delivered on all fronts.
The moment I stepped inside, I was struck by the bistro's impeccable cleanliness, classy yet cosy ambiance, and beautiful decor. Despite my somewhat bedraggled appearance in hiking gear, I was greeted with genuine warmth and friendliness. It was clear from the outset that Brambles Bistro values hospitality as much as it does culinary excellence.
Faced with a menu brimming with tempting options, I eventually settled on a classic fish finger sandwich—a fitting choice given the bistro's coastal location. The sandwich was nothing short of divine, with perfectly cooked fish fingers that captured the essence of fresh, local seafood.
What truly set Brambles Bistro apart was the staff's remarkable friendliness and attentiveness, even during a busy period. One young waitress, whose name escapes me, stood out for her engaging conversation about cars—a delightful surprise for a petrolhead like myself. As a frequent solo traveler, I deeply appreciate small talk and a few laughs, which can make a dining experience so much more enjoyable. Unfortunately, many restaurants tend to overlook solo diners, but Brambles Bistro made me feel right at home.
The skill and grace of the staff were also noteworthy, especially given the challenges posed by the bistro's historic 300-400-year-old building, with its low doors, tight spaces, and narrow staircases. The staff navigated these quirks with effortless ease, adding to the overall charm of the experience.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend Brambles Bistro highly enough. Whether you're a local or a visitor, this delightful establishment offers not only fantastic food but also a warm and welcoming atmosphere that will make you feel like part of the family. I look forward to my next visit and encourage anyone in the area to make Brambles Bistro a must-visit...
Read moreTLDR Brilliant food selection and Veggie options available. Delicious food with an owner that is passionate and welcoming.
We were looking for somewhere to get breakfast on our first day in Robin Hood's Bay and happened upon Brambles. After looking at the menu and seeing vegetarian options for my partner we decided to take a seat outside. The staff were friendly and welcoming and food reasonably priced. We ordered a vegan breakfast and breakfast sandwich which we thoroughly enjoyed with our coffee and orange juice. We decided to take a look at the evening menu and also found there to be a number of vegetarian options and thankfully no site of the dreaded vegetarian lasagna. Seen as we had enjoyed breakfast and the service so much we went ahead and booked a table for that evening.
Upon returning in the evening we were once again greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. We ordered our drinks alongside a haddock and porter house. The staff were very attentive and and the atmosphere warming. Out food arrived surprisingly quick and looked beautiful. The haddock was fresh and crispy and complemented perfectly by the pea and mint puree. The steak was perfectly cooked and went with the Rick pepper or sauce.
After our food we chatted to the owner who had actually been served us that morning and evening. She made us feel very welcome and had and infections energy that added to the atmosphere. We hadn't intended to have a dessert but after being recommend the brownie by the owner we just had to try it and boy was she right.
Before leaving the owner recommended lots of little things to do in the area that evening and the next day.
We will definitely be returning here and recommend to anyone planing to visit the bay even just for a quick...
