This place is a very large ‘pop up’ camp site in a really very nice location with access to a secluded, but stoney, beach with good walking in every direction and good access to Weymouth and other local attractions. The site have made a real effort in terms of activities for children and others. Yoga, pottery, animal petting, canoeing trips to name just a few. There are also a huge amount of facilities on the site. There is a chip shop, pizza place, full blown bar and restaurant, bakery, shop and the list goes on. However, there were a number of ‘cons’ which I will now outline. We had a number of problems with our bell tent which was really expensive (Sunny bank holiday weekend, so this was in some ways understandable.). But what we got for the huge expense of this was not equivalent, in my view, to what you get on other camp sites. This really was just tent, beds and bedding, fire pit, two small towels and two chairs with one bag of kindling and one bag of rather damp firewood - this I thought, was something of an achievement given the lack of rain over the last few months. In other places we have stayed you get a full picnic table/bench, fire tripod and a few other ‘glam ping ’ luxuries. However the most serious problem was what I perceived to be a lack of customer service. Someone had thought, for whatever reason, it was ok to occupy the tent assigned to us. When this was reported to reception indifference reigned. Nobody went with us to sort the situation out. We were contacted and offered another tent, which was dirty. So after another trip back to the reception - I was disappointed that nobody seemed to take ownership of the situation. Another few hours passed, nobody contacted us so we went back to check on progress. It had been cleaned, but an extra bed we had requested was still missing. Another trip to reception and another, what felt like relaxed approach. It was almost six in the evening when this was finally resolved, no compensation offered and only a cursory apology for the quite severe inconvenience. I think some of the problems this site suffers from, like mountains of litter not cleared from around the picnic tables and long queues at almost every single stalls and shops might be put down to the lack of leadership and high proportion of very young members of staff. Several site rules did not seem to be enforced, like separation between pitches and noise long after 10pm. The access road is quite difficult, anyone with anything lower than a standard car should consider this before booking. Cars are allowed by tents as well, which creates a slightly chaotic atmosphere with people driving around children playing and other hazards. Another reviewer described the camp site as being ‘like a music festival without the music.’ I would agree with that, but if that is not the atmosphere you are looking for then it may detract from your...
Read moreWe’ve been coming here with a large group of friends for 4 years now and love our times here. The kids have an amazing time and the facilities on site are generally good. I do however think the toilet facilities could do with a bit of an upgrade and increase in number, particularly in corner field. The queues at certain times of day are bonkers. Overall though,...
