Stayed here on Thursday night with my wife, as a base for a trip to Flamingo Land. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this really is a hidden gem. The town it's situated in is really quiet. The hotel itself (at least when we stayed) wasn't rowdy in the slightest. Even if it was, the walls of the rooms are incredibly thick, so would probably block most sounds. The building is a very charming, with some really nice old features. While it could be updated a little, I'm not sure it would suit the vibe of the place. The staff were excellent, very responsive and friendly. The service and food at breakfast was also excellent; fresh, not microwaved junk. We feel we had a great value stay and will be using the Kings Head again in future. Anyone rating this place below a 4 at minimum is surely being excessively picky for the money, there's nothing I'd really change. We had a great time. Meeting the hotel cat...

Well hardly even noticed a storm last night . Cracking weekend in the North Yorkshire Moors . Roaring fires in hearths over 400 years old. The sound of clopping hooves from bygone drawn carriages on cobbled roads . Stepping back into long forgotten times . Sunsets telling wives tales truths , shepherd's happy the day after to have glorious blue skies . The only fog inside my head from the spirits in bottles of a night of rich conversation daubed with laughter , memories and dreams . Walks along wooded ,weaving ways . Trodden by feet and hoof for centuries, the shouting of drovers still heard on the breeze . Little Robins standing their ground in jungles of ancient Ash, Birch and Oak. Sundog light shows across clouds that you don't always see , we don't spend our time looking up . Finished off with Yorkshire's finest...

Called in 19th June for lunch without booking a table. We received a warm, friendly, welcome from a very pleasant young lady behind the bar. We ordered 2 home made steak pies. One with chips and one with mash potatoes and both with fresh vegetables. Our meals were served in a timely manner, served hot, flavoursome, plentifull and delicious. We both thoroughly enjoyed the meal, ambience of The Kings Head and friendliness of the bar assistant. She kindly advised me that there was a promotion on a pint of my chosen lager as opposed to half a pint. A gesture that I appreciated. Parking is good straight outside this lovely market place pub/hotel. Eating here you won't be disappointed. Would recomend and...

After reading good reviews we were looking forward to our stay. Knew it was an old building but can't understand how it had been awarded a 4*. It was scruffy. The furniture dominated the room which left little space to walk around the bed. No room for a seat. No teaspoons and one biscuit to share. The bathroom was large with a kidney shaped dresser with stained cloth under the glass cover. No extractor fan but an open skylight. Peeling wallpaper. Broken chain on plug and one plastic cup. 20 minute wait for breakfast, although we were the only ones in the dining room, which was passable.

This place is great, very welcoming and the staff were great. Drinks and food were a good price. We had been travelling up the coast and were on our way home and thought we would have an extra night out. We were not disappointed, we had steak pie and a steak to eat and they were both out of this world and a good price. We'll done to all the people that work there, hope to call again
