I have been to the black swan several times previously and have always found the staff, food and drink to be very good. The menu offers a reasonable range catering for most people's tastes and the bar has an ample range of drinks to include both real ales and lagers. In the daytime I have called in a couple of times for a coffee and to send a few business emails, and whilst the pub is mainly aimed at food I have always been welcomed and where a larger table can be spared I have been allowed to take the additional space for working on a laptop and making notes etc. The pub also has free WiFi for customers which is a handy service. The gravy was about my only quibble, there wasn't anything "wrong" with it but it had gelatinous blobs (not meaty bits) that I could scoop off to the side of the plate. Great Timothy T ale, proper Brandy glass (,for The Fortunate One's Brandy, yes it does matter what glass its presented in). The food: Although some might sat basic, it was absolutely served fresh,piping hot,and more reasonably priced than most!. Top marks from this discerning Farnworth lad!..
