We had an amazing time at this campsite and couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The facilities look completely new and they were kept spotless with lashings of hot water for showers and washing up.
We arrived by train at Bangor and got a taxi to the camping park. It cost £30. We arrive at 9.10pm. I emailed the site manager in advance to check this late arrival would be ok. The site manager was so so lovely and accommodating, even giving us his number if we needed any help finding the campsite. We even forgot our matches for the hob, a nightmare when you've been on a long journey and need a cup of tea, but luckily the manager gave us a big box to borrow.
The campsite is opposite a lovely bakery (closes daily at 12) and a 5min walk from a pub and bus stop. Its 10mins walk from afew small local shops. A great location if you want to feel like your in the middle of nowhere but also be close to some facilities for a stress free easy stay. There is a bus at 7.30am that will take you direct to Pen-y-pas in less than 30mins. Or if you want longer in bed theres a bus (88) every hour to Llaebenaris. Here you change and get another bus S2/S1 to Pen-y-pas. This take 45mins. Both journeys to Pen-y-pas by public transport are super easy. Dogs are welcome and there is a massive field round the back to walk them. Pitches with electric hook up are also avaliable. The site has laundry facilities, ironing board and a disabled shower and toilet too.
I couldn't recommend this campsite enough! We had such a lovely stay and at £12pp per night you couldn't get any better for your money! We can't wait...
Read moreWe stayed here over August bank holiday. Given it's a fairly small campsite we were pleasantly suprised with the qualities of the facilities - good wifi, laundrette, fridge/freezers etc.
Despite staying on the busiest weekend, and with only 2 on-site showers I was apprehensive... but I never had to queue for the shower or toilet! However my partner, male, did on several occasion. These facilities were very well kept.
Repeating many others, it is a fantastic base for exploring the area. Also close by to a good local pub and a cheap bus.
My only criticism are the pitches. Whilst it's nice there is no strict instructions, we had a large group arrive next to us and they pitched their tents right up close to ours as there's no boundaries on the floor. This meant our car had to be parked in front of the tent, obstructing views and we wouldn't have been able to erect a table/chair or gazebo if required.
A suggestion would be to also have a separate (or sign-posted) field for ball games. On several occasions we had a football fly at us whilst trying to enjoy a bbq, and watched this football hit nearby parked caravans! Will definitely return, but in...
Read moreWhere to start, my husband and I stayed here for just over 3 weeks, June 2025. This site was a fantastic base to explore north Wales. The facilities were immaculate every time we used them, the WiFi was strong, pitches were spacious, grounds beautifully maintained, washing facilities, a small selection of pubs, shops and takeaways were less than a 5 min drive away, and the surrounding areas offer things to do to keep you busy for weeks (literally)! But, above all else Nathan and his team were fantastic! You can tell the pride and commitment they take in running this amazing site. Always available for a chat or some information, but never invasive or overhearing. The site is not small, but never felt busy or crowded, the local knowledge they can provide helped Llys derwen and north Wales really feel like a home away from home. Pet friendly, child friendly, but also able to provide seclusion for those who want more of an adult only stay. I can't imagine staying anywhere else if visiting north wales! Please always find space for us! Thank you for a great stay, your new...
