Beautiful property, cosy room, fully stocked with tea, coffees, biscuits etc, the ensuite also had locally made cosmetics for guests. Large soft towels and facecloths. The breakfasts were perfect, place your order the night before and go to breakfast room at your allocated slot. Tables are numbered by rooms. There is fresh milk, water and orange juice on the dresser, along with yogurt and bread if you would like to make toast. My husband and I both selected to have fresh fruit every morning.. and that's exactly what it was- fresh and tasty (blueberries, melon, orange, strawberry and raspberries). Once you are seated you are brought your choice of tea/ coffee.. tea is delivered in proper large denby or china teapot (the different crockery is so quirky), and the coffee served in a proper coffee glass jug to the table. Main breakfast is freshly cooked per table (thus the time slots) . There is a fantastic selection of good quality breakfast items. The French toast was a lovely change, with a hint of cinnamon. In the afternoon there are treats in the breakfasts room. Kate's brownies were delicious!
The location is perfect, Braithwaite is a lovely village and plenty of walks, and choice of eateries. It's also close to Keswick for all the essentials you may need for your hikes.
The B&B is also dog friend which is always a plus for us (even though we don't travel with our dogs). The garden is perfect for dogs to run about, and has a seating area for the humans, there are plenty of colours and sweet smells in the garden and beautiful wild strawberries growing in the borders.
Kate has great local knowledge, and sent us to the most crystal clear lake for us to launch the paddleboards. Her directions were perfect. We had a great day
I liked everything, but hikers should be mindful of the breakfast allocations. On arrival we only had the 9 or 9:30 slot to choose from for breakfast (the time we had hoped to be starting our hike, being naturally early risers we are always up by 6:30am.. and ALWAYSstarving.. so it's tough to wait). If I had have know I would have emailed or rang the B&B beforehand to ensure the earliest time slots. I have no doubt Kate would have accommodated the same. We were changed to the 8am slot as soon...
Read moreFrom the minute we arrived we were greeted warmly and shown around the house which was unique, clean and accommodating. The dining room was perfectly set up where you could help yourself to milk and best of all, free home made cake. Our room was on the top floor facing the garden which was beautifully kept and offered partial mountain views. There were many complimentary toiletries in the bathroom including little things such as ear buds and hand cream. The bedroom was beautifully decorated and there was an abundance of tea, coffee and hot chocolate available as well as a large kettle. We booked in for breakfast each day at 08.15am and from the moment we sat, we were attended to. We had zero complaints about the food, it was delicious and plentiful. The only thing that would irritate some people about Maple Bank is the water pressure which can be temperamental if someone else is showering and the WiFi isn't great but if you're an easy breezy person like me, it won't be a deal breaker at all. There are DVD players built into the TV's and lots of DVD's to borrow should you wish for some evening entertainment whilst resting your sore feet. This is a dog friendly house and whilst we don't have a dog, we greatly enjoyed meeting everyone else's. Very close to Keswick, Derwent Water and...
Read moreJust returned home from a wonderful weekend, when we arrived on Friday we were met by Kate who is lovely and so helpful. At this b n b they have gone above and beyond, it is spotlessly clean the rooms are large and have everything. That you need, all your toiletries are provided for you there is literally nothing that has been forgotton. (even down to ear plugs) the breakfast choices were great and cooked to perfection every morning. All the staff we can across were courteous and polite . Laminated maps are provided to guests to help with ideas of where to walk which was so helpful and every day cakes were made and left in the dining room to help yourself, just what was needed after a nice long walk. The village is 5/10 mins maximum walk where there are 4/5 places to eat and 3 pubs. There is also a bus stop a couple of mins away where you can easily access Keswick or cockermouth, Parking is available. I have stayed in many b n b's over the years but this one I have to say is certainly one of the very best. My self and my husband will...
