Where do I begin? For context this is the first time I've ever written a bad review on any holiday I have been on. Confrontation is the last thing I want, but on this occasion it felt needed. I also wanted to warn people against spending a lot of money on this place, as we are heartbroken and feel truly robbed for what we received. We picked this location even though it wasn't in the area of Cornwall we wanted. But the photos looked incredible! Balcony with a sea view, so close to the sea, clean tidy and modern interior. Even though it was more expensive than other locations, we decided it looked worth it, and spent extra as a one off to have a really special holiday in a beautiful apartment. How wrong we were. We booked the apartment named 'sea shore'. I think 'far away from the sea shore' is more fitting. The name is as misleading as the photos advertising it. We were in fact a long walk away from the sea at the end of the resort. Half a kilometre away infact. No sea view at all, just a view of some trees and run down apartments. To top it off the apartments from the car park don't look like they do on the photos. They look like slums up the side of the hill. Dirty and run down. We were shocked when we arrived. You can't park anywhere near the apartments either, but this gave us time to take in the smell of sewage and bin bags left all the way up the street as we walked to and from our dank corner every night. And the rubbish bags were left outside for days. I wish I could add all my photos to this review. We contacted the resort directly on the first night to explain our frustrations. I was hoping to discuss with them that they should advertise their properties correctly and show the exact apartment people will be staying in, and price them accordingly. We aren't unreasonable people, and just wanted to be heard and avoid disappointment and negative reviews for both sides. We arrived incredibly late after a long drive the first night, and were so disappointed with the amenities provided for how much we paid. One toilet roll for a week, no hand soap in the bathroom, one blue cloth for cleaning the pots but nothing for wiping down surfaces. No bin bags in the toilet bin, and no more provided for the kitchen bin. A dustpan, but with no brush? I don't know how we were expected to clean up after ourselves. I don't expect having to do a massive shop on the first day for the price we had paid. Oh and the salt and pepper shakers that are for some reason provided but are empty ha. There are lots of old dirty appliances in there, none from what I can see have been PAT tested. Safe to say we didn't use them. We did however use the oven. Conveniently the fan on it didn't work so it took ages for our dinner to cook. We only used it that once and decided it wasn't worth the effort again. Then we move onto the stains. There's stains everywhere, the chair in the corner was borderline grey not even yellow from dust and dirt. It had marks all over it. So did the sofa, covered in white stains, the cushions on the back were flattened due to age and overuse. Marks all up the walls, on all the surfaces, brown stains up the curtains. Leaking from the dishwasher that has damaged the floorboards so they have gaps, damp stains on the roof. But to top it all off, bright orange stains on our bed sheets, placed down towards the bed; I assume in hopes we wouldn't notice them. I waited for a reply to my first email thinking no one would read them over the weekend and that's why I hadn't heard back. So on Monday I emailed them again and added just a note about the stains on the bed sheets. I didn't mention all the other stuff, all I wanted was someone to pop up and change them for us. It's now two days since we returned home and we still haven't heard anything. Honestly such disgusting service. The only saviour to this holiday was the service from the lovely cafe on the beach. Brilliant food and staff. I recommend spending money...
Read moreWe stayed in Villa 17 which was part of the Valley Resorts setup. Millendreath is a lovely little area with a very private beach and a couple of eateries located at the beach front. The water was clean and the kids loved the sand and the rock pools. There was a good carpark in the middle of the complex.||Here are some +'s & -'s to Villa 17 that we stayed in||Negatives:|- Villa 17 has a faulty window in the main bedroom - BEWARE!! On the first night I opened it (as it was a little warm) and the entire window (and this is not an exaggeration) fell out of the frame towards me. I managed to put it back in place and lock it and we didn't open it for the rest of the holiday. I spotted that the mechanism was faulty and hadn't been looked after and had snapped off from the window frame I emailed valley resorts that evening but they didn't even have the decency to contact me back or try to fix it during our stay (v.poor customer service).|- The locking mechanism on the external sliding door was super fiddly|- Yes there were steep steps to the villa and in fact all the villas, but what I thought was questionable was the fact that the railings were not very reassuring or safe for young children. They are essentially scaffolding railings connected together and cemented into the steps and they are only on one side of the steps so one could easily fall - they need improving.|- Dripping tap in the kitchen - it was super annoying and we had to use a sponge to dampen the noise.|- TV was not tune in very well and the channels available weren't great, but we wern't there to watch tv, but nonetheless it could have been better.|- Dead battery in the wall clock|- Decking area was 'tired' and in need of some refurbishment|- Would have benefitted from some children's crockery/cutlery||Positives:|- Beautiful view of the sea and surrounding complex|- Villa was clean and tidy|- Kitchen was generally well equipped|- Comfortable beds|- Good bunk bed for the kids|- Equipped with drying rack for clothes which was useful!|- Good location to explore the rest of Cornwall||All in all it was a lovely holiday and we would certainly return back to this resort, but it is worth mentioning the points above from this review so that should you be booking in yourself that you can consider these and bring them up with the provider. 3 stars is all I would be prepared to give it due to how tired I felt aspects of the accommodation was and how the Valley Resorts failed to respond to quite a serious issue (with the window) - I know that we would mention these if booking again.||Enjoy your holiday...
Read moreLocation wise, it can't be beat! Woodland to one side, a skip away from the beach and a half hour walk from wonderful Looe. Millendreath is the best beach for swimming, then Plaidy and the next one along towards Looe tend to be pretty much deserted but are still great for swimming as long as you make yourself aware of where all the rocks are when the tide is in (great rockpooling when the tide is out!) The beach cafe is fabulous (just a pity it's not open more!) The bar is equally wonderful- excellent selection of drinks and cocktails, and the supply of blankets for anyone wanting to sit on the verandah overlooking the sea. Handy beach hire/shop too for pretty much EVERYTHING you'll need at the beach. The accommodation was clean, with a spacious living area. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking (though with 4 place dinner settings you'll be doing plenty of washing up!) There's a good size fridge (no freezer) oven & hob, dishwasher and washer-drier. Bathroom was clean and adequately sized. Bedrooms were a little on the small side with little storage, but we managed by utilising the drawers in the lounge/diner. It would benefit from having a floor mop and some oven gloves, and a gate on the verandah (we stacked chairs and used a stair gate kindly loaned by a neighbouring owner to keep the dog from wandering off) We had 2 weeks in number 62, and loved every minute. The staff are absolutely wonderful. Helpful, friendly and supportive. Our washing machine was out of service so they replaced it at the earliest opportunity. Also they called me one day when I was about to go on a mackerel fishing trip to say my husky was running about loose in the car park- I was about to cancel the trip and drive back from Looe when they called again to say one of the maintenance chaps had managed to get her back in the apartment AND SHUT THE KIDS BEDROOM WINDOW!!! I was very grateful to have been able to continue my afternoon out with my family (we had a great fresh fish supper that evening!) We even picked up some great dog training tips from Kelly too (thank you 😊). I would have liked to be able to recycle but didn't find any recycling bins whilst there? In all, I'd happily have another 2 weeks there- I would consider buying buying an apartment there if I could afford it- It's so perfect. Unfortunately for my other half it's really increased my longing to move back...
