Me and my boyfriend booked to stay in Bishop Auckland Premier Inn as we were visiting family nearby and it was in an ideal location for us. We usually book a Premier Inn hotel when we stay anywhere away from home as we know what to expect, staff are usually attentive, the rooms are clean, etc, and most of them have been renovated somewhat recently, so they feel modern and looked after. However this was not the case during our stay. ||We checked into the hotel after waiting ten minutes at the reception before anyone even appearing to help us, and were staying on the ground floor. The member of staff who saw us was least enthusiastic, and really only have one-word answers, which I understand people can have bad days, but it wasn’t a very warm welcome to somewhere that we’d paid not a cheap price to stay at. Safe to stay, the whole place felt dated and clearly hadn’t had the same renovations done to it as other Premier Inns that we had stayed in previously, but our bedroom especially felt dingy and tired. The small lights that were in the room were very dim and the one small window was covered entirely by a fence, meaning there was barely any natural light coming in to the room. We were definitely immediately disappointed by what we had turned up to, but tried to remain positive, and got on with our day.||We dropped our bags and headed back out quite quickly after checking in as we had plans with family, and didn’t return until a lot later into the night. When we came back to our room, we noticed that there was a damp and fusty smell throughout, but especially in the bathroom, which had a strong smell of urine. When I went to brush my teeth and get a shower, I noticed that the bin in the bathroom had also not been changed since the last guests that stayed here, as there was a nappy and some used teabags inside. The shower also had very weak pressure and kicked out some gunk before starting, and would only work with the bath tap running at the same time, however we didn’t report this at the time as we were so tired and it was late and we wanted to get some sleep, which I know is on us and our fault, however it felt as though the list of complaints just kept getting longer, and I just wanted to sleep and get our stay over with so that we could go home well-rested the following day.||Well-rested is definitely not how we spent the next day, unfortunately. The walls here are definitely thin, we heard the entirety of next door’s conversation / argument whilst trying to sleep, and it sounds as though the neighbouring shower / bath running is coming from your own bathroom, which led to us having a rather unsettled night. Our morning was then started abruptly at just before 9am, when we were awoken by a member of staff walking into our room saying they “were told we’d left”, which I understand was a human mistake, but followed by kids running up and down racing in the hallway and the family staying beside us being noisy, meant we barely slept during our stay. We also struggled to understand why, if checkout isn’t until 12pm, you would attempt to enter a checked-into room at 9am anyway, as people would be sleeping in the surrounding rooms, and surely cleaning would awaken your guests. We also couldn’t understand why / how anyone could say that we’d left when we hadn’t checked out, hadn’t spoken to or seen a member of staff, and hadn’t left the building since arriving back at night. ||Checking out, no member of staff was at reception once again, and we had plans with family again, so didn’t have the time to wait around to speak to someone to explain our dissatisfaction or check-out in person, so used the self-drop box to leave our keys and left. ||In summary, I would not stay here again. I’ve never had any complaints about our stays at Premier Inns before, and we’ve stayed in many across the country. I’ve never even reviewed a single place on here before, but I feel as though people booking should know what to expect, and when you are booking online it’s very deceiving. This place needs some serious TLC, and we are very disappointed with our experience. The location is probably all that is going for it, and the beds are obviously always great at these hotels, but that’s all I have to say about it...
Read moreAfter a fairly recent stay from August 12th to August 15th this year at the Bishop Auckland Premier Inn I am forced to write a scathing review due to the poor quality of the room and lack of response to my complaint put in on August 16th 2024
Firstly staff were first rate. There was nothing too much trouble for them. The room was exceptionally clean when I asked for it to be cleaned whilst at breakfast
However, there is phrase that says you can not make a silk purse out of sows ear.
Staff were great but they are constantly battling against poor network connectivity, failure on door locking mechanisms and just the overall tiredness of the hotel having been built in 2007 apparently.
During my stay even though I was only there for three nights, I had to go, on no less than 6 occasions to get my key card re-programmed or completely replaced. On two occasions the key card worked on the bottom door by the reception but not the hotel room door so I had to get the manageress to let me into my room which each time meant going up two floors to the second floor and walking along the corridor to get to the room.
This was extremely poor and as I said, the staff did all they could to sort out the situation however, the hotel is tired and areas need major investment to bring it up to the high standards of Premier Inns that you come to expect.
However, this is completely unacceptable to me and added to this the tired state of the bathroom and in the main room, holes evident in the curtains letting beams of light through and holes in the bedding.
Also there was a lot patching that had taken place as the bathroom had sealant added around the floor edges on numerous occasions as well as on the bathroom tiling. The bath panel was in a right state and the bin looked like it had been beaten with a hammer. The chrome had come off the bathroom plughole and I thought initially it had been left dirty but this was not the case, it was just worn out.
The shower temperature fluctuated and you would set it and it would do its own thing and the water would become unbearably hot. This meant you had to be very careful in using it. In fact I only used it once.
August 16th 2024 put in complaint to Premier Inns. I got an acknowledgement same day they had received my complaint but It was not until September 4th 2024 got an email that said they could do nothing as they did not have enough information about my stay, which is weird considering all Premier Inns I am sure would be linked by an internal network and could have found the details of my stay. However, went along with it and sent invoice the same day as receiving the email from them. it is now October 7th no reply. I will keep you posted. 14 10.24- received communication from guest relations department trying to pacify me with £99 refund, which equates to roughly a third of the total bill. This gesture was a beginning to a solution however they were claiming the electronic lock situation was rectified during my stay which it wasn't and this still did not account for the poor state of the room. Hence the...
Read moreVisited here as a stop off on outlet holidays in Scotland. We normally use premier inn as we know what we are getting and they are a comfortable stay as a rule.
Sadly on this occasion it has been the worst stay of our lifes. All was going well. We arrived checked in and went To get food and have a walk about. Came back to the hotel room and settled down for the night. About 8pm we started hearing a noise, the best way I could describe it would be to say it sounded like a washing machine. This on on and off every few minutes until we had had enough at just after 10pm. I went to speak with reception who came up to look and he said it could be this or that and if it carries on pop and see him. I asked what will you do if it carries on move us into another room? He responded no we are full and I’m not sure what we can do. I expressed my frustration and he left rather put out at what I’d said (mainly being he was not much help)
10 minutes later the chap from reception and his colleague came Up Asking if they could turn off a fan isolation switch. For 15 to 20 minutes looking for the switch.
This did nothing and the noise continues through the night. Both like zombies due to the noise and the fact the heating stayed on all night and would not turn off leaving us sweltering all night left is very frustrated and annoyed.
A total rubbish start...
