Beautiful Location, But Let Down by Poor Facilities and Outdated Infrastructure

There are definitely some great things about this site — the location is fantastic, with beautiful views and just a short walk to the beach. It's perfect for dog owners, with plenty of scenic walks nearby and a dog-friendly clubhouse. The food there is excellent, and we especially loved the breakfast selection, which was a real highlight of our stay.

However, these positives were unfortunately overshadowed by a number of ongoing issues.

The new showers, installed just last year, are a real letdown. No matter what time of day you used them, the floors were constantly soaking wet. A single mop left in the corner isn’t a solution — there needs to be proper drainage or raised mats so guests aren't standing in puddles while trying to dry off. On top of that, there’s nowhere practical to place shampoo or shower gel — the only shelf is awkwardly located above the toilet.

Another major frustration was the electricity supply. Our power kept tripping repeatedly, even when using a low-voltage kettle. At just 10 amps, it’s simply not enough to meet the demands of modern-day living. We ended up having to switch the heating off just to be able to use another appliance. That’s just not acceptable, especially during cooler weather.

We were also disappointed to find that WiFi still isn’t included in the stay. In this day and age, that really should be standard — it’s not a luxury anymore, it’s expected.

Lastly, the new pitches introduced last year don’t live up to the hype either — not a single one is fully serviced. It’s hard not to feel like the focus has shifted from guest experience to squeezing every penny out of visitors. There’s a noticeable lack of care and attention to detail.

While the location and dog-friendly amenities are definite highlights, the overall experience was let down by poor facilities and outdated infrastructure. Sadly, it’ll be a long time before we consider returning — if ever. There are many other caravan parks that offer much better value,...

I adore both this caravan park and the other 2 that Abbeyford Leisure own. As I write this, I am staying in a Castaway holiday home, our home for this week! It is so clean and really tasteful, also very cosy! The site itself has a great atmosphere to it, it's not too snobby but not too rough, and the view from my caravan is second to none! The Connoisseur caravans offer completely uninterrupted views of the sea and the iconic view of the beautiful St Andrews. I have only stayed in them once, but I plan to do so again! The same applies with the Castaways- they are just so tasteful and I love that veranda, especially during the evening or in the morning. As well as having lovely caravans, this site has great amenities, my personal favourite is Papa John's Pizza. I know it should be kept as a treat, but the pizza is absolutely beautiful, in looks and taste. The wait is only about 10 minutes from placing your order to getting your pizza, and there is nothing better than sitting eating it looking at what is, in my opinion, one of the best views in the world! I also like the restaraunt with the gourmet burgers (in case you can't tell, I have been very tempted with unhealthy food for this holiday, the fudge donut I had in Fisher and Donaldson's bakers is another story which was well, well worth the millions of calories....), but the only problem with the on-site restaraunt is that it is absolutely full of dogs, to an extent that you can't really relax with them barking all the time. I normally like dogs, so please consider this to not be an overreaction! The food there is very good though and the staff are friendly. Also, while I am talking about the staff, the reception staff are really nice too and go the extra mile (something that I should be quite literally be doing after my food filled holiday!). I shouldn't even bother saying that I would stay again. I will probably be coming here for the...

At the top of the hill, there is this collection of tiny light green houses. Whether this is the best use of such prime, dramatic real estate is questionable, but the people I saw here certainly enjoyed their dazzling, grandiose views. Wealthy Americans and Brits revel in their manicured lawns and the precise, orderly landscape. Part of it feels a little artificial to me, like something out of a Jacques Tati film. Four stars for the overall vista, which is mythic and wild, tempered by the rushing waves and the rocky shore. I'd recommend taking here from the town for the sake of the views, which revitalise the weary spirit. The climb up the hill, though short, provides a genuine sense of accomplishment, as one hikes toward the Scottish flag blowing in the stormy winds so common here. Convention and habit disintegrate upon the sight of those striking sheer bluffs dropping down to the grey sands- it's one of the most expansive, regal sights of St Andrews.
